I lived next to an armament specialist who worked for the Defense Dept. Some years ago he told me a story of the Kursk and said that we had subs and ships monitoring it’s mission that could have rescued the trapped seamen, but the Russians would not allow it because of sensitive high tech torpedoes that were to be fired during the exercise and the fact that there were high ranking Chinese Navy officers aboard.
