I went to Salvation Army for utility help but I was declined so I said forget it. Now I’m going to try with HEAP. I guess I was declined because my brother helps me with the rent, car and car insurance and extra whatever he can give me. I went to a housing assistance run by the Catholic because I need help in rent for only 1 time. I was decline but they referred me to a county office. They help rent only 1 time for Families and Individual. I was also declined because they stated they only have funds for Families Only NOT Individuals - sigh. So far folks, I’m still here - Thank God.

SVDP is a separate organization. Not every parish has one. It's a primarily lay organization, and assistance is personal, rather than with guidelines coming from a central authority. My parish has a small food pantry and grocery cards at local grocery stores. We will also help with bills up to $500/year. That's our own guideline - others have their own.

There's no bureaucracy involved - no agency, no departments, just regular people. Typically there's a deacon at the head of it for the parish. PLEASE call - it can't hurt, and it doesn't appear that you've actually contacted 'us' from what you say.

When one's down on one's luck, it can be daunting to go back and forth to get help.
