Turkey suddenly open to RESTORING ties with Israel, REFUSES to criticize Israeli election

Turkey, via their Deputy Prime Minister, is putting the word out on the street that it is open to a restoration of ties with Israel, even acknowledging that it is NOT Turkey’s place to criticize the recent Israeli election:

snip

Wow. The admitted refusal to criticize Israel over the election is definitely a change of pace for Turkey. I mean, when has Erdogan ever missed an opportunity to openly bash Israel? He was just ripping Netanyahu in January for just showing up to the Paris march against ‘radical Islam’, accusing him of killing 2500 Palestinians in the war last year.

But now all of a sudden Erdogan is quiet, especially after Netanyahu’s ‘Arab busing’ comment?

This silence has caught the attention of a writer at Al-Monitor, who writes this:

snip

I assure you this silence isn’t a coincidence. I think Erdogan knows that Netanyahu isn’t going anywhere for a while and if he wants to create an environment in which they can make a future covenant with Israel, then they need to start making friends fast.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Foreign countries are realizing that Obama will be gone soon but Netanyahu will not be. And as politicians will do, they shift to accommodate new realities.

The Sunnis are coming around while the Shia rampage on their home turf.

Lots of refueling locations now for the IAF.

Hussein Baraka is pissed.

I like that.

IMHO, Erdogan is trying to be the big man of the mid-east. He was bashing Israel to gain favor with the Palenistinians. However, the world is growing bored of the Palestinians as the walk away at the 11th hour on every “peace” deal. Now that the PLO has aligned with Hamas in Gaza (another stupid 11th hour move), Erdogan has to work with Israel against Iran and the Shia/Shiite crescent movement.

The idea of Iranian middle east hegemony probably has Turkey worried. And Israel probably offered them a pretty good deal.

The reality is setting in that despite Obama and his Iranian aide’s best efforts, the Jews aren’t going anywhere. The Ottoman Empire will not be restored.

The Turks know they are going to need Israel’s intelligence support - if not other support - if they go to war against Iran.

How many countries publicly bash Israel and behind the scenes make nice with them?

More than a few.

The Turks could not give two $#!+$ about the Arabs but for a time making nasty noises at Israel served to bolster their Islamic and regional power credentials. Iran has been playing the same game for years now. But, as with Hitler in the thirties, there's always a possibility that they really are crazy and it's unsafe to assume their rhetoric is all bluff.

Now the game is becoming serious for Turkey. Turks and Persians (Sunnis and Shiites) have quite a history of killing each other en masse. Iran is now a dominant and growing power in significant parts of Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, all of which border Turkey. And their soon to be acquired atomics will give them swagger in the region that the Turks have always fancied to be theirs by right.

I would expect Erdogan to start making friendlier noises about his NATO shield in hopes that it will intimidate Iran. Unfortunately for him, Iran has had the chance to take the measure of America under Obama and Kerry and probably sees NATO as an empty shell. Resuming the relatively friendly relationship Turkey used to have with Israel (the only nuclear counterweight to Iran besides NATO) is another prudent step.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

In this case the Turkish reaction may be to the Saudi-Egyptian formation of a joint Arab military force.

During his election campaign for the presidency in summer 2014, he crossed certain red lines in the language and images he used, calling Israeli politicians “worse than Hitler” and accusing them of attempted genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Genocide; one would think, would be a word that a Turk would be very careful about using considering that old Armenian thing.

And genocide has become such an over used word that it has become a cliché’.

If genocide is attempted it is noticed and talked about in horrific terms. I at least have not heard of bodies lying in the street rotting because there too many to bury in the Gaza strip.
