According to CNNs Brian Stelter, Rolling Stone and journalist Sabrina Erdely will formerly apologize for and remove last falls discredited story about a rape on the University of Virginia campus, the result of a months-long investigation by Columbia Universitys Graduate School of Journalism. Per Stelter, Columbias report found a systemic failure at the magazine, ordinarily known for its rigorous fact checking.
Erderlys statement tonight will be her first in months; she has not spoken to the press or tweeted since her story was called into question.
The 9,000-word article alleging an horrific gang rape at a U-Va fraternity crumbled under weeks of scrutiny. Re-reporting by the Washington Post and others undercut the articles central claim, and an investigation by Charlottesville, Virginia PD found no evidence to support the rape story.
Rolling Stone retracted the story, but has received additional criticism for having left the story online. That will change tonight, according to Stelter, as the piece will be replaced by Columbias investigatory findings. Also at question is whether any of the magazines staff will be disciplined.

journalist Sabrina Erdely
Sabrina Erdely should be looking at five to ten for a hate crime with malice aforethought.
Rolling Stone should be shut down and an IRS investigation launched on all its subscribers and advertisers.
Hahaha! They made a funny!
How is that different from someone setting a bomb in a restaurant. The bomb malfunctions and doesn’t explode. All that is required is for you to remove the bomb and say you’re sorry?
It is because the lawsuit is eminent. Good luck to the frat house.
Warn the reader that her definition of “rape” is suspect
Formerly apologize?
I thought there was an unwritten rule that if an anonymous source lied to you, you were no longer required to protect their anonymity. When are they going to identify “Jackie?”
It was Rolling Stone that smeared Gen. McChrystal.
Jackie was such an obvious nut case and fabulist that no one, especially her friends, took her seriously. She was a mentally unbalanced and disturbed woman. Ms. Erdely must have know this. Ms. Erdely, imho, is entirely at fault for airing and embellishing the concoctions of this poor woman. Best to leave her be, I’d say.
They will “apologize”, but next issue, they will be right back to the same BS.
Can't let the facts get in the way of a the story she wanted to write.
Formally?
Can't anybody write anymore?
Did they MEAN to say they’ll FORMERLY apologize. Or did they mean FORMALLY?
I think somebody needs some remedial spelling....or at lrast, a proofreader.
Oooops! I guess I need both.
Let him that is without sin....
No, she is a journalists. But not a reporter. Reporters simply relate what happened. Today’s gang is to smart for that. They have to concoct narratives and provide their clever analyses. Bring back reporters. Dump journalists.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate your correct grammar in the phrase "Let him who is without sin..."
So often the phrase is butchered as "Let he who is without sin." Arrghhh!
Another phrase that frequently becomes mangled is "we the people." For some reason, many well-read persons don't seem to understand that the pronoun "we" must be changed to "us" when the phrase is used in a sentence such as "These rights are reserved to ... us the people" (not "to we").
