Welcome to the big leagues. Thats the message several top GOP operatives say Rand Paul will get from the Republican establishment, and from the media, when he announces his candidacy for the presidency on Tuesday.
These onlookers believe that Paul, who has been a media darling and a ubiquitous presence on the airwaves since his election in 2010, has gotten a pass from the press. In their eyes, hes been allowed to skate past one controversy after another in part because hes been a vocal critic of the Republican party.
The media treats him better than they treat other Republicans, says a top Republican operative. He gets a free ride, but that free ride is about to end, because now hes going to be in the crossfire. The media havent dwelled on Pauls fringier views, particularly on foreign policy, the operative says, because Paul is an interesting and colorful politician who has been a vocal critic of the George W. Bush administrations muscular foreign policy. They felt the same way about Huntsman, the operative says, referring to former Utah governor and China ambassador Jon Huntsman, whose middle-of-the-road views attracted some attention when he ran for president in 2012.
If the media havent obsessed over Pauls more colorful statements or his more controversial positions, the gloves are bound to come off within the Republican party.

You nailed it!
Why doesn’t he run on Libertarian ticket? I guess I already knew honesty in politics was an oxymoron.
Paul isn’t so anti-establishment or unsupportive of it, he.

why does he run in a republican primary anyway, do the liberal-tarians not have their own primary?
I trust Paul as far as I could throw him. He might be the druggie, the FOX workers, child molesters, homosexuals and the college kids, but that is about it.
He’s more left than most liberals on social issues and will flip flop over anything to get elected. Where was he on the religious freedom laws? no where again.
Paul will say anything to get elected and while he was a fresh face but now he has now shown what a flip flop, no clue idiot he is
There’s no way that Paul is getting the nomination. There’s no way that he’ll be the VP slot.
But he can pull a good number of Libertarians into voting for the eventual nominee. There are a lot of points where we agree with each other, and given the small number of Libertarians out there, and therefore a limited ability to impact let alone drive policy, Conservatives are in a safe position to agree to disagree on positions where we don’t.
he;s a media darling because he fits in right with them. Open borders,
reduced military
drugs legal
homosexuals agenda advances and notice how he kept quiet over the religious freedom law in IN?
He’s more liberal than most liberals and it is amazing there are still dopes though not all in the druggie stage who would vote for this buffoon.
My question too.
Do the liberal-tarians not have their own primaries?
Maybe but many liberal-tarians do not vote for the conservative and many care more about drugs, especially kids at college. Backs will vote still for the Dems especially when Paul talks about cutting their welfare.
Illegals like him because he’s for open borders.
He certainly will not get the military vote or vets because of the cuts he wants.
Religious types will not vote for him because he’s more left than liberals on social issues.
He’s a media darling because of what he stands for . Fox are having an orgasm over him which is why I have turned them off.
Some may be just drugged-out anti-cop paranoids, but many are probably just astroturf working for the never-ending Paul campaign.
agree, but Paul is his father but a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Both Pauls are demagogues and DIABN (Democrats-in-a-but-name).
