Grant’s response in shutting down the Union soldiers’ celebrations was to shame them with the truth. Modern democrats cannot be shamed, and will not admit to any truth they don’t like. And their voters apparently like it that way.

I have come to understand that always taking the high road with democrat insults is self-defeating. But one must use humor to eviscerate their ignorant hides - they cannot stand being laughed at. They actually prefer to be punched in the nose - it allows them to play victim.

OK. /Rant

Except that Jefferson Davis was a Democrat.

I’m starting to hear a little desperation from the left already. Cruz and Paul are rocking their world and not in a good way. LOL!

And today's Democrat party is the party of Heinrich Himmler.

At least Jeff Davis had some sense of honor. And most of the measures he enacted had already been passed ... by Abraham Lincoln.

More importantly (in the larger picture), liberals can’t have a system where the socialist hellholes suffer while the most “free” states (in terms of taxation, regulation, and individual liberties) prosper. Federal programs (including the newest: ObamaCare) re-distribute wealth to an extent, but not enough to stop the flight of capital from “liberal” states. Immigration is one means (akin to the Quartering Act preceding the American Revolution) by which the central government can allot dependents to prospering states, along with Section 8 housing for native-born “takers”.

Slavery is presented as the cause of the Civil War because the truth is much uglier (and still relevant today); an overbearing centralized federal government dominating the state governments that had originally held the power during and following the American Revolution.

Used to be one of my favorite bumper stickers: “Don’t blame me! I voted for Jefferson Davis.”

Actually the roles of Democrats and the Radical Republicans of the Reconstructionist era were somewhat reversed from those we see today.

Even worse, if Harold would look at how blacks live in the “enlightened” northeast he would weep; public education has failed them completely, leaving them with hollow diplomas while they are functionally illiterate adults. The efforts to combat poverty instead multiplied it, and the Yankees simply house them in out-of-the-way reservations so that the People That Matter can go about their business.

The Union leadership had no idea what to do with the contraband in 1861; 150 years later the federal government still has no answers.

Like most liberal men, his problem is one that would be helped with large doses of testosterone.

To leftists, a fact is the most irrelevant quantity of all. For them, and because they are so wonderfully intelligent, believing is seeing. “I think, therefore it must be.”

As long as we're debunking myths today here's an old one...

Cotton was one of the reasons why the Confederacy hoped Great Britain would intervene on their behalf during the war

The "King Cotton" strategy was not aimed at coercing the British into supporting the Confederacy. That's an often repeated interpretation made up by historians who do not understand economics in general, or finance in particular. To be certain, the Confederacy tried everything they could to gain the support of the British, but the purpose of the King Cotton strategy was to maintain the price of Confederate bonds which were backed by cotton. Restricting the export of cotton kept the price of cotton high (for a while), which kept Confederate bonds saleable, which kept the Confederate government in funds with which to fight the war.

The conceit of dopes like Myerson is that somehow conservative white America is failing black people. And without all those icky conservative Republicans, black Americans would be living like Myerson lives...fat and sassy in capitalist America. (Well, many of them are living fat and sassy off the American tax-payer.)

Except nobody but socialists and race-baiting vultures believes that lie. It was never true in the first place. If any party can be blamed for black failure, it would be the Democrat Party. The party Myerson probably votes for. Dem pols run all the major population centers where blacks mostly live. Myerson should ask all those Dem pols why their black residents don't do better. Nary a nasty Republican within miles of their fair cities.

Among the top 100 individual donors to political groups, more than half gave primarily to Democrats or their allies. Among groups that funneled more than $100,000 to allies, the top of the list tilted overwhelmingly toward Democrats — a group favoring the GOP doesn’t appear on the list until No. 14.

The super wealthy are elites who wish to dominate and control the masses and prevent economic competition by creating economical, political, and ecclesiastical governments. Then the elites convince the masses that they cannot survive without these governments.Which results in the masses accepting being controlled and dominated by the elites.
