When I moved to SF in ‘73, the Presidio in SF, Fort Mason in SF, and forts Barry, Baker and Cronkhite in Marin County were all open. Now they are all part of one of the most spectacular park systems in the world.
Yeah, I know. I was surprised last time I went there to see the entire post fenced in required a pass to get on. it was completely open when I was there. I remember at Randolph you could go right up to theearea near the flightline and look at the T 37’s and 38’s without any security.
The Army Reserve Center isn’t under the command and control of the Texas National Guard. It is Federal property under the command and control of the USAR. Notifying the CG of the Texas Army National Guard of your visit doesn’t automatically mean that information gets relayed to the USAR and its center at Grand Prairie. That still doesn’t excuse the lack of security, especially with reports of ISIS moving across our southern border.
One of my fave movies of all time...
Perhaps Gregory Peck’s finest work.
It is very difficult to get on base in Groton, which is a nuclear sub base. I was making a delivery of equipment they had cordered with a priority delivery and still I waited over an hour to be waved in
And he was only like, thirty-five or so. I know he was acting, but I didn’t have that kind of maturity at that age.
Active Duty ping.
I understand the need for base security..particularly since 9/11 and Fort Hood. But the current "Rules For Courts-Martial" came into force in 2012,long after 9/11 *and* Fort Hood.It specifically states that except for unusual circumstances (ships at sea, trials in combat zones, trials involving classified info) *civilians* are entitled to attend courts-martial for the very same reasons that they're entitled to attend non-military trials.
The Rules For Courts-Martial makes no exceptions for individual stateside bases that I can see.
Seriously? How would we know? If they are only now known to be in the region 8 miles south of El Paso, TEXAS, then what is not known of there whereabouts inside TEXAS?
What is not known means how far inside TEXAS could they already be? Grand Prarie, TEXAS therefore gets no guaranteed pass from an ISIS.
I remember the 22 Nike (Hercules) Missile Bases in the Chicago area, in the early 60s, and all were heavily fortified, well-guarded by Green Berets. I got a ‘guided tour’ (Lt Bachir) when I made Eagle Scout in 1963. After seeing that, I always thought all US Military Bases were the same. Not so.
Either the soldiers themselves are obtuse and unserious about their own security, in the midst of a cascade of news focusing on threats to them and their families, or else the Obama shaping of our military is complete, and headed for destruction.
At the A school side of Great Lakes Naval base, during the 80’s...I know for a fact the post entrance sentries were armed and so were parking lot rovers.
I did both.

Explains how everyone is getting inside the White House fence.
If ISIS goes the speed limit they can do it in about 10 hours. They can easily make it by breakfast and Sunday assembly.
Some years ago, the AF stopped with the vehicle stickers. It now requires hands-on ID for every vehicle entering. With the bar codes and computerized scanners, it makes it a bit more secure than it used to be when a decal would serve as “good enough except for periodic spot checks”.
Someday, a post will be guarded by a Muslim. Maybe today?
Try breaking in to an arms room or a storage room at the ASP. Test their security.
