Scott Walker Wins Pennsylvania Conservatives' Straw Poll
News Max ^ | April 20, 2015 | John Gizzi

Posted on 04/20/2015 11:35:15 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

In results that were stunning for several reasons, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was the runaway winner in a "straw poll" of Republican presidential favorites at Pennsylvania’s largest-ever gathering of conservatives, the Pennsylvania Leadership Conference, on Friday and Saturday.

With the "straw ballots" counted and released on Saturday, Walker was an easy winner with 91 votes, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with 58 votes. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was third with 56 votes.

Since the first PLC back in 1989, the group has become the most-attended and most-watched conclave of conservatives in the Keystone State. Fueled by the recent campaigns of conservative Sen. Pat Toomey(R.-Pa.)and by the rise of the "tea party movement" over the past five years, the 2015 PLC attracted a record 700-plus participants...

Walker’s showing among this group was particularly impressive in that many PLC participants freely acknowledged to Newsmax that they had never met the governor but admired him tremendously for successfully standing up to organized labor over reform of pensions and healthcare for public employees.

Recalling former Republican Gov. Tom Corbett’s defeat last fall at the hands of Democrat Tom Wolf,a Western Pennsylvania public relations woman and conservative activist told Newsmax:"Gov. Corbett missed his Scott Walker opportunity by never pursuing pension and healthcare reform the way they did in Wisconsin. That would have rallied the grass roots in Pennsylvania and possibly saved him."

Lowman Henry, president of the Pennsylvania Leadership Council, agreed. As he told Newsmax after the straw vote, "Gov. Walker has strong appeal to Pennsylvania conservatives, as we are engaged in the same battles against oppression by labor bosses as he faced in Wisconsin. He has proven his willingness to fight, has won major policy victories, and survived the wrath of the radical left. He is a proven leader, and that is winning him a lot of support here.".........

How about that.

Walker must have some strong political wind at his back to cause such frenzied posts.

Well I guess that’s that. Walker is the GOP nominee. Now we can just forget about primary debates or any other possible candidates. The GOPe wins again.

On the first one here, you’ll have to click back to what prompted this response from me.

On the next post, my thoughts on Walker’s immigration stance are verified. Check the clip out.

Not only is my position on him only now changing his mind about immigration, it’s crystal clear he hasn’t changed at all.

He’ll find a way to do just what his prior policy was.

LISTEN! This from March 1st, 2015

10:20 in this video

Scott is asked if illegal pay a fine, if they can stay.

Listen to his garbled answer yourself. He says he believes a way can be found to do that.

I have been highly suspicious of the claim he changed his mind. I’m glad I was.

I’m actually quite disgusted at this point.

There are things that bother about both Cruz and Walker.

It is so disgusting we can’t find anyone who has a clue when it comes to immigration.

Screw the citizens, just let them stay and increase H-1Bs.

Does everyone in the R.P. have a political death wish?

Well the person who is the strongest by far on immigration is Donald Trump so you should hope he gets in the race. Personally I hope he does. At least he will keep the rest of them honest.

IMO every GOP candidate if elected will push for immigration reform that lets a good portion or all of the 11 million stay. Its going to be up to the people to pressure Congress not to do it.

I can understand your thoughts on Trump, but I couldn’t support the guy. IMO he’s a loose cannon. He may get it right on illegal immigration. I think he’d get a ton of other things wrong.

Nothing personal with you, but that’s the way I see it.

Thanks for the link. He said he was for a "Path to citizenship". I have been told many times by several different FReepers and as recently as yesterday that a path to citizenship is not amnesty. But Walker has said he is for both and I believe he means it.

I have been wanting to like Walker but I could never support a pro-amnesty candidate. It's sad that so many here are willing to do so.

Walker should run on what he believes in. He shouldn’t say one thing, truly believe another, and then try to fool us into believing he’s someone he’s not. He shouldn’t send his minions to our forum to try to pull the wool over forum participant’s eyes.

We see this every election cycle. The crony capitalist business lobby and chamber of commerce shills show up to push their bought and paid for mannequin all dressed up as a pure bred conservative.

That’s the way I see it also.

I am not a happy camper at all about Cruz’ comments concerning H-1B visas either.

The one thing I’ll say about it, is he is honest about what his view is. He’s not lying to me about it.

That doesn’t make me forget the terrible idea of bringing more H-1Bs to the U. S. when we have tens of millions of U. S. Citizens out of work.

I swear there has got to be something in the water, that these folks can’t grasp the finer issues.

That was quite pathetic. You lie like a a rug, and complain about everything.

You don't trust Cruz, you don't trust Walker, so why don't you just go hide and wait for the end to come?

I have no problem talking about trusting someone else.

As long as there is no attempt to put them before God, you shouldn't have a problem with that language either.

LakeShark, I invite you to link to a post I’ve made where I lied. Should be easy for you to find if I’m so bad.

LakeShark, you have just been caught lying about me.

When you come up with a place where I’ve lied, please link forum participants to it.

I’m not opposed to the H-1B visa program in the altruistic sense. It’s a golden key opportunity for a non-citizen IF you have the skill sets required and IF there is a labor shortage for those same skills. The problem is that cheap labor business lobbies flashing cash and working with the political class picking winners and losers in the private sector for political favors to short circuit the system, undermine the program and simultaneously short change Americans with those same skills looking for work. It’s a vicious cycle and particularly damaging in a bad economy. If Cruz can define and manage H1Bs as originally intended while telling the corporate blood suckers to take a hike, I’m good with that.

In theory, I could join you on that.

My problem is that big business comes in and makes a good presentation, and the people in our nation who could be retrained or are currently qualified, have no voice at all.

We have 40 million people out of work. What in the sam hell would cause Cruz to champion H-1B visas at a time like this?

I call that supremely tone deaf.

In theory, H-1B visas can ensure we get the best and brightest from abroad. Like you, I want that managed tightly. Even addressing the issue right now, causes me concern it will be. Trouble is, I have no way of knowing.

I tried to keep up last night, but this one sneaked through.

Hey, I’m in the glide path to 64. It is interesting that in these years you can recognize the need to grow up in some ways.

Your angst over your and your dad’s relationship is typical. My angst is more directed at my mother than my dad.

We all look back and realize we could have and probably should have done some things differently. I know I do.

Take care.

The problem is, the tendency to put politicians before God is very endemic in America. America is a do-it-yourself country. And that’s wrong.
