People have the right to protest, but too many politicians are afraid or unwilling to stop looting and rioting. The dividing line between liberals and conservatives could hardly be starker.
When the St. Louis Grand Jury reached its decision in Officer Wilsons shooting of Michael Brown, Democrat Missouri Governor Jay Nixon ignored calls from Fergusons mayor and kept the National Guard away from the initial violence. As Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder complained: "[The National Guard]were kept away at the crucial time while Ferguson burned. The rioting and destruction was hardly a surprise.
Likewise, in Baltimore, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has evoked controversy over her own slow response to the violence. She claims that she was misunderstood when she announced on Saturday: "I worked with the police and I instructed them to do everything that they could to ensure that the protestors could exercise their right to free speech. It is a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to de-escalate.
Rawlings-Blake may not have meant what she said about giving "those who wished to destroy space to do that," but her statement was clear enough. In addition, her pattern of slow responses continued through Monday. Despite all the damage, the mayor didnt even put in the required request for the National Guard until 7 PM Monday evening.
Reportedly the mayor and police commissioner thought that they had the situation under control and worried that the National Guard would provoke the rioters. . . .

New American right: safe space to destroy?
Looting, burning, attacking others is not a human right.
She just opened a political power vacuum. The gov’t may spark CWII (oddly, beginning with gangs) trying to close it.
Somebody in the public eye should stand up and say people have the right to protest but anyone who riots, burns, loots or acts violently is a criminal piece of filth.
...Still Waiting...
Slight disagreement. It will be another English Civil War on American soil. It will be over the same thing. Will one class be allowed to rule over the other(s). Will there be a ruling class that the rest of us will be subject to? Will we have the rule of law or the rule of men? The English are constantly working this out amongst themselves. Looks like it is our turn.
Nor are they forms of protest. This is not a protest; it’s a riot. These thugs don’t give a rat’s butt about Gray, his death is just an excuse to loot, burn, destroy, and attack cops.
As for communities having problems with the police, it seems only certain communities do.
Then there is the bogus claim about police forces becoming militarized. If cops didn’t have military style equipment and firepower, they would be outgunned by the gangs and drug cartels.
She was coached every step of the way by the CPUSA.
It seems to me the best solution to the riots would be to load a tanker airplane with water with a dye to mark the participants in said riot and drop it on the riotous mass and soak them all. They would be wet and marked for easy pick up later and may not like how they feel. When they regroup with dry clothing hit em again.
Not lethal but effective? Make it illegal to wear the dyed clothing and hit em in the pocket book. Not my favorite shoes, my I phone is wet, oh no!
The English Civil War was not over whether there would be a ruling class.
It was over which class would rule.
Interestingly, at the time it was the Roundheads who were the conservatives. All the hip young with-it types were all in favor of royal absolutism, as was found almost universally on the Continent.
Restrictions on royal authority were (quite literally) medieval.
They do not want to alienate their base.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Actually, no, they don't.
