Well then, the canonical joke of the day:
Hitler was worried about the war and went to see his astrologer.
“Will I lose the war?”
“Unfortunately, you will lose the war.”
“Will I die in the war?”
“Yes, you will fall before the war is over.”
“Do you know when I will die?”
“Yes, I do. You will die on a Jewish holiday.”
“Which one?”
“Any day you die...bingo, Jewish holiday.”
What surprises me about the last map is that they are still identifying Soviet forces in the field and their orders of battle. How the Germans are still doing that, I don’t know. I guess it’s like stepping on a spider. Even though it’s dead, the legs still squirm.
After today, it’s more like a chicken with its head cut off...
They were just hoping to hold off the Russians until the Western Allies arrived.
Their military genius Leader needed that information to devise more fantasy plans to save Berlin. After today, though, he won't need the information.
And that’s one reason we don’t get any more maps. No more work, boys...have some schnapps!
At this point, I wonder what is the actual field strength of the German army. Most of it is located in Czechoslovakia, and it still has another two weeks of fighting left.
Bingo
I will commemorate the moment with background music I played a few years ago whenever I was reading articles about Stuxnet.
But, she was known for a lot more than nude photos. She was a major artist in her own right, collaborating for a few years with the surrealist Man Ray. Her war correspondence was also well received.
I thought this was interesting - later in life she gave up photography for gourmet cooking.
So much history went down during April of 1945. Roosevelt dies. Truman sworn in. Mussolini executed. Hitler dead by suicide. Germany on the brink of surrender. Japan, already being beaten into submission, with the United States about to thrust their entire war machine upon them. Swimming, scientifically taught, for nervous people, at Dalton Swimming School on 23 W. 44th Street! Must have been amazing to have lived through it. But I almost feel that I have as a result of these great threads.
Canada Ping!
Thanks for the ping.
It's a mistake many countries and empires have made...
Thanks. Best article on Lee Miller I’ve seen yet.
I can’t believe she was only 11 years younger than my grandmother and 20 years older than my 86-yr-old mom! What an event-filled life ahead of her time when women, particularly beautiful women, were very vulnerable!
