Food Stamps Are a Form of Corporate Welfare, and Harmful to the Poor

Posted on 05/02/2015 10:25:49 AM PDT by pinochet

The big Agribusiness corporations are some of the most corrupt corporations in America. The New York Times had an article in 2013, on the Agribusiness corruption in the $1 trillion farm bill. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/20/business/richer-farmers-bigger-subsidies.html?_r=0

The Food Stamp programs and free school lunch programs, are a means by which Agro-business corporations can increase their revenues, by selling food to the Federal and State governments at above market prices.

The food stamp program was never intended to help the poor. Even the USDA website admits that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program was intended to help Agribusiness corporations sell surplus food that they were unable to sell in the free market. The permanent Food Stamp Program came into effect in 1964, and there were 380,000 food stamp recipients. The number rose to 10 million in 1971. Today, there are 46 million food stamp recipients.

In 1963, before America had a permanent food stamp program, we did not have any starving poor people in America. Poor Americans were slim and handsome/beautiful people, very physically fit, and extremely hard workers. Younger Americans may be surprised to learn that America had the hardest working poor people in the world. Most poor adults were married, church-going moral people, in 1963. Food stamps made poor people fat, immoral, and lazy, and created the obesity epidemic among the poor.

An American General recently said that Obesity is a national security issue for America, because it reduced potential recruits for the US military:

If Michelle Obama want to end America's obesity problem, she could call for the total end of the food stamp program.

If Americans do not fight the demonic food stamp program, the food stamp recipients could rise from the current 46 million to 160 million, as corrupt Agribusiness corporations seek to raise eligibility to higher income levels. Most Americans will end up on food stamps, despite the fact that they do not need them.

A country in which the poor people are fatter than the rich is not a normal country. A country that gives poor people free food, so that they can sit at home all day and watch day-time TV, is not a normal country. It is a country that is run by lunatics.

Another thing. The Food Stamp program does not transfer wealth from the rich to the poor. Instead, it transfers wealth from the middle-class to the rich people who own the corrupt agribusiness corporations. This policy also harms small independent farmers.

The largest and most corrupt corporation in this country is the federal government.

EBT is raising the price of meat because, even in the 70’s when I was a bagboy, the food stamp users bought the most expensive meats. Most cash buyers bought cheaper cuts.

No, I don’t object to poor people eating meat. But when I was poor; when my mother was poor, we ate hamburger. Why should you and I pay to have people who, in my experience, simply don’t want to work... eat steak?

The EBT people are using food stamp purchased goods to resell for cash so they have money for alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. I know this from a renter I had.

We have price supports to prop up the prices of agricultural commodities. That makes them to expensive for "the poor." To offset that, we have EBT and SNAP. The whole rotten scheme is simply an income transfer from the taxpayer to the agribusiness industry, including the farmers.

They do not. They hand their card directly to their drug dealer, and he buys what he wants off of it. Nobody goes to so much trouble as to buy stuff and resale it. They just sell the card and the pin number. The usual rate is two to one. For every $100.00 worth of drugs, they dealer gets $200.00 worth of EBT dollars.

The high beef prices are a result of the killer snow storm that crossed the Upper Midwest about 15 months ago. Hundreds of thousands of cows, and calves, were killed.

It's going to take awhile to get production back to normal levels.

“They hand their card directly to their drug dealer, and he buys what he wants off of it.”

I’m saying this because when she abandoned the place in August, with the power off, she left about $100 in EBT steaks. She took the case of beer. My friend who also has rentals told me about the resale thing. The refrigerator would have been ruined, but I learned about corpse deodorizer...$33/gallon. She may not have been sophisticate enough to do it another way.

She called the cops because her boyfriend was beating her up...they were in their late 50’s. The cops came to the door to deal with the drunk couple and noticed the 48 pot plants within easy view. This resulted in a 2:00 am SWAT raid.

FWIW, I remember back when Food Stamps came in. I was living on a very limited budget at the time, but was able to get by with dependable food basics at bargain prices. As soon as food stamps came in, the prices on those basics went way up.

Here's an example. Back then, chicken wings were a cheap protein source, great for the base of an inexpensive home made soup. Now they're a high-priced popular snack food.

For every $100.00 worth of drugs, they dealer gets $200.00 worth of EBT dollars.

Then the drug dealer launders the EBT money at a local convenience store that pretends to sell the dealer $200 worth of milk and gives the drug dealer $150 in cash.

Everybody wins.

This is the capitalist system at work with your money.

I hadn’t noticed as I haven’t had beef in about three years.

Been saying for some time now that is she wanted to end obesity then end what food stamps recipients can buy.
It should be only veggies , fruit, cereal, and potatoes .

No lobsters, shrimp, chips, soda’s, and cookies.

Sounds like she was her own drug dealer.
