Pamela Geller Is Not the Real Problem
theblaze.com ^ | Cheryl Chumley

Pamela Geller has been taking quite a few hits in recent days for hosting the “Draw Muhammad” event in Garland, Texas, that led to an attack by two gunmen who’ve now been embraced by Islamic State as one of their own.

But she’s not the problem. Radical Islamism is — and to a certain extent, so are some of those who condemn her for daring to host this event.

*snip*

As she said to Martha MacCullum, while defending her First Amendment cause on Fox News: What are the terrorists going to do, blow up everybody in the media?

Maybe Gellar’s event was taunting. Maybe it was mocking, insulting, stupid and even provocative. But as she says, in Time Magazine: “To kowtow to violent intimidation will only encourage more of it.”

So go ahead — fault Geller for insensitivity.

But her point of a cowardly, overly politically correct media is a valid one. The fact that’s she willing to take on radicalized Islam with an in-your-face message shouldn’t become the focus of more media attention than what’s afforded the radicalized Islamists who seek to uproot this nation’s First Amendment.

Pam has certainly kicked the hornets nest. And I know she'll keep it up!

Go Pam!

Rosa Parks was not “the real problem” either.

Sounds like a double-dog dare to me.

There are at least two components to the problem:

1 - Islam

2 - The US government executive branch.

Radicals killed Theo Van Gogh in the Netherlands for making a movie.

There is a Houston area Honor Killings case going on now, the wrong the daughter did? Converting to Christianity. Her husband killed too.

The only way to appease many Islamists is simply “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil”.

No, let's applaud her for bravery, for steadfast devotion to the principles of free expression, for her adherence to the Constitution, for her unwillingness to abrogate her principles in the face of threats.

Pamela Geller is a true modern-day superhero. She knows the difference between good and evil, and she is unafraid to speak candidly about the difference.

I do applaud her. And I do support her both with words and with money.

Islam to me as an invalid religion is a given. However, if we think back in our media history to Madalyn Murray O’Hair and even up to Branson or Maher today, atheists don’t seem to get the feigned (yet violent) indignant response out of Muslims as much as a Christian saying or doing anything against that “Prophet” would.

It’s almost like there is a real cognitive dissonance with respect to them being okay with an atheist saying “there is no God (even Allah)” but you (particularly Christians) say or do anything about Mohammed and it’s complete melee.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this is because of the importance MEDIA places on it and how they want to portray it. This further encourages crazy Muslims to react violently because they know it will get coverage. And, we can see it, the keywords and catch phrases, in their coverage: provocative, insulting/insulted, right wing Christians, and so on. For atheists? Well, media nearly always is neutral on the trigger words. Instead, they just connect the issue to the Constitution and the so-called Separation of Church and state, about which they are deceitfully misleading.

She sure is a firebrand!

The kind that founded the country and kept it as the "Land Of The Free" for almost 240 years.

We need more like her and fewer apologists for Islam - Especially in the government and the media.

Totally agree, she is a godsend from what seems to be an extremely left-wing voting bloc as well, coming from NYC, Long Island specifically. Angels to guard her and her family.

When is the liberal media going to get around to condemning Twitter for allowing ISIS to communicate with wannabe jihadists worldwide?

Glen Beck was ranting on about how it was a bad idea, but...

If Sharia doesn’t like free speech, move to England,
Germany or France.

Pray America is waking

Radical Islamists want to chop our heads off. Moderate Islamists want to cheer while the radicals chop our heads off.

Twitter flushes many of them out into the open. They can be tracked...and many are.

The real problem in this discussion isn’t Geller, it’s that many, if not most, progressives don’t like free speech. Absent the Muslim question, they advocate banning what they label offensive or hate speech. They go so far as to openly oppose such mild oppositional speech as Limbaugh or Fox. There are some conservatives in this crowd as well who would ban socialist or libertine speech. It’s a thorny question. Most of us, if given the opportunity, would, for the good of the country, ban our opponent’s speech.
