Scott Walker urges crowd to pray for government, business leaders

Gov. Scott Walker told a heavily — if not exclusively — Christian crowd gathered at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee Thursday to go out and share their faith with the world, and to pray for their leaders in government and business regardless of party or position.

"Always pray for our leaders so that God's will will be followed rather than their own," he said.

Walker spoke at the annual Governor's Prayer Breakfast, organized by the West Allis-based Christian publishing nonprofit ProBuColls Association.

An evangelical Christian, Walker has been increasingly open about his faith on the campaign trail, as he ramps up his expected run for president.

He told the crowd of about 1,000 — as he has said elsewhere on the stump — that he and his wife, Tonette, and their two sons are sustained by prayer. And he quoted a favorite Biblical verse that he's also shared previously, from 2nd Corinthians: Paul said of Christ's words, "My grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness."

Walker used the verse to thank keynote speaker Nancy Writebol, the American missionary who attributes her recovery from a near deadly bout of Ebola to the power of God. He called her a "living testament" to that Scripture......

My impression is that Scott Walker’s walk with Jesus is genuine. He neither downplays his Christian faith, nor uses it as a political tool.

I believe exactly the same is true of Senator Cruz.

There is a certain other candidate who I believe use his faith cynically as a tool for political gain. He shall remain nameless in this reply but it’s not hard to figure out to which one I refer.

He freely speaks of it with an audience that has gathered to hear about his faith, but he doesn’t shy away from it in more secular settings.

That, and I believe that Jesus Christ genuinely informs his thoughts and actions as he lives his life. That’s a challenge for any of us. It’s even harder in his chosen profession.

At risk of getting myself flamed — I believe the same is true of George W. Bush. Not that Bush was flawless, and not that Bush and Walker are alike, or would govern similarly.

Just that each of them genuinely tries to live his life in obedience to Christ.

We can do WAY worse than to have that trait in our leader. As we have seen for these six going on eight long years.

Amen.

we need to pray for our country. We need to pray for our leaders. And we need to pray for protection from our leaders.

He is great on most issues but should steer clear of this territory. Just can't take him as a serious Christian after he admitted attending a celebration of something God calls an abomination, that being his lesbian cousin's marriage. To me it is no different than attending a party to celebrate two adults embarking on an adulterous relationship.

I pray for my elected overlords on a regular basis:

Some to drop dead,
Some to have their cold, black hearts turned to God, and
Some to gird their loins and keep fighting the good fight! :)

Yes, it's very natural and real.

He attended a reception some days later for his wife’s cousin who married another woman.

Walker has made it clear, personally and politically, that marriage is between a man and a woman.

If you can’t handle that, pick someone else to support.

Indeed, imprecatory prayer is in order for those in government and business that oppress us.

Scott Walker’s faith is the real thing.

Last week he was back in Wisconsin at the capitol building where my sister’s granddaughter works for him. My grand-niece decided to try to have her grandma and grandpa meet the governor as they are fans of his.

The Grandma here is my sister, who has recently begun chemo treatments for pancreatic cancer. Since my sister was too weak from the treatments, Scott Walker decided to call her instead. Comically, my brother-in-law saw the incoming call and picked it up and disconnected it because he said, “We get so darn many nuisance calls”. The telephone rang again and my BiL decided to answer it, and lo and behold the voice said, “This is Governor Walker calling to speak to [my sister].

They had a nice conversation, and it ended with Scott Walker telling her that he was adding her name to his prayer list. She was very thrilled with that call.

So, Walker’s Christian faith is the real thing. Not a phony façade to be put on and taken off at whim.

Thank you very much for the prayers; and yes, Jesus is the healer and the redeemer. My sister has great faith.

Our family is reeling under this burden and in the past two weeks another sister suddenly declined in health and died on Tuesday. Even though she was 84 years of age, it was a blow on top of the other news of a sister with pancreatic cancer.

I am feeling a bit low this week.

Healing prayers for your sisters, and for peace and strength for your entire family, Gumdrop.

“6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

From Philippians, ch4 — spoken over you and your family, in the name of JESUS CHRIST.
