Perfect example of why more and more UBC's would have completely prevented the shoot out in Waco yesterday. Oh, wait. Never mind.

I was reading the commentary last year of an American IT guy who was offered a job and considered moving to Rio. The upscale neighborhood was a five-star place was part of the deal....but he noted that several guards roamed the gated community with shotguns. He asked questions and found out that crime was a big deal, and ended up turning down the job.

Fewer Guns, More Crime

Isn't that the name of a book on gun control. I just can't remember the author's name.

Been there. Had armed guards outside my residence in Brazil, Argentina and Peru. If I went from my residence to my work place and back, with a stop for dinner, I was ok. But if I chose to deviate from that schedule, I was on my own.

Thankfully the assignment was very short.

Clearly they need more gun control and restrictions to stop the violence.

Things have evidently gotten worse in recent years. In 1993 I was a visiting scholar at University of Sao Paolo, and had no hesitation about walking around the city at night.

Not only that. One of my neighbors worked on fast and the furious (FAST FIVE) in Brazil and he told me that never in his life did he ever have so much armed security in a foreign location shoot. Apparently word was that the local gangs had threatened the studio for extortion if they want to shoot scenes “safely”.

It’s not the guns, it’s the number of underclass.
