Would seat belts have saved them?
I mean it is really odd that if seat belts DO save lives that taxi and bus riders don’t use them.

i’ve always wondered why buses don’t have seatbelt. Taxi’s do and the issue was brought up in the attached article which has photos too.
During the recent tin crash where victims flew through the air to get lodged in small spaces, I noticed talk now of putting seat belts on trains.
I don’t mind. I feel much safer in my car when bucked in.

No seat belts for kids in buses and apparently taxis.
Just repeating the conventional "wisdom" of the day.

I think you would find that not many people wear seat belts in a cab. I do when I can find them.
