Good point, but I’d also suggest that some types of police work are symptomatic of an out-of-control police state. I don’t believe that the whole idea of police officers serving as an armed security force for the purpose of “crime prevention” (in any form) is compatible with a constitutional republic by any objective measure.
sheriffs or constables ...
comparable to Local police are they not ?
The idea of an “out of control police state” is somewhat of an oxymoron. The police are merely the tip of the spear of an out of control government. When politicians can argue both sides of any issue (Need for tough enforcement, revenue and condemn violent police overreaction.); you have a frightened populous and happy politicians.
When the government behaves as if they are merely tolerated by the “public” may be replaced on any given day; we have the right amount of government.
The Libs, Obama, Holder, Sharpton, Jackson are selling the “out of control police state” line. We, who are correctly cautious of government, must be cautious of picking up that mantra.
Are the riots, thug behavior, knockout game, burglary, robbery, looting, arson, high homicide rate symptomatic of the “police state”?
There are bad cops, lawyers, doctors, priests. To smear the totality of any group is emotional and weak thinking.
