Will there be crime if there’s no one there to write reports about it? Public Unions suck, but there is a much bigger problem here. It’s the perception of the role of police in society. They are a politician’s virtual pawn and are treated as either the solver of all problems, relieving the people from responsibility by oppressing the opposition or the ultimate evil for oppressing the folks they are pandering to this week. Either way, they aren’t sure of what is expected by their master. Uncertainty, breeds aberrant behavior. It is a no win battle and cynicism is only one byproduct.
Good point, but I’d also suggest that some types of police work are symptomatic of an out-of-control police state. I don’t believe that the whole idea of police officers serving as an armed security force for the purpose of “crime prevention” (in any form) is compatible with a constitutional republic by any objective measure.
