In the Murky World of Big-Bucks Speeches, the Clintons Are More Transparent Than Most

Bill and Hillary Clinton might have left the White House dead broke, but they certainly recovered quickly. The pair has generated tens of millions of dollars of income for themselves and their foundation since 2000, with much of it coming from paid speeches. Indeed, financial disclosure reports recently filed by the Clintons bump the total that they have ginned up in speaking fees to at least $130 million, with the price of a single speech frequently topping $300,000.

Those staggering figures have shined a bright light on the very big, very opaque market for corporate keynotes, addresses to universities, and gab sessions with trade associations. And interviews with the people who buy and sell those speeches — corporate event planners, industry experts, speakers themselves — helps to illuminate it further.

Still, it seems worth noting that we know far less about how much figures like Dubya or Bernanke make, because their earnings do not fall subject to any public disclosure rules.

Bill and Hillary running an enormous slush fund? Selling state secrets to foreign powers? Why, yes, I'd be happy to talk about George W. Bush and his many transgressions ...

These people have no shame.

Are we sure these "speeches" are legit?

Some execs at companies companies the Foundation listed as giving gargantuan Clinton Honorariums say they never heard of a Cinton giving a speech. And none of the pricey speeches are found on web sites (as is the usual practice).

The just-revealed honorarium payouts include pricey speeches Bill Clinton gave to:

<><> an Irish scholarship fund,

<><> a Korean conglomerate, and,

<><> a Nigerian newspaper company...

..........each of these entities paid Clinton more than half a million dollars........

The Washington Post reported that Hillary Clinton earned $11.7 million by delivering 51 speeches since January, 2014.....she was paid an astonishing $625,000 for two speeches — in one day!

AND THIS---Several state and federal agencies the Clintons listed as donors told news outlets they did not contribute to the Clinton Foundation.

<><> EPA is listed as a donor but said there's no record of donations to the Clinton Foundation.

<><> The “Office of Minority Health and Human Services,” is listed but it's not clear what this donation referred to, or even which federal or state office it came from.

<><> The Arkansas Dept of Human Services received a donor "gift receipt" but said they never expended tax dollars to the Foundation.
