Baltimore is now paying the price for irresponsible words and actions, not only by young thugs in the streets, but also by its mayor and the state prosecutor, both of whom threw the police to the wolves, in order to curry favor with local voters.

The fact that the cops killed the guy had nothing to do with it I guess.

We have a system of justice and I don’t recall even one of those cops being convicted of a thing as yet.

Dr. Sowell is right on the mark about the thugs, the mayor and the state prosecutor in my view.

And a great many people think that the cops did nothing wrong. Yet the man is dead. You say that the cops have not been convicted of anything. Yet Sowell, and perhaps you as well, don't think the cops should have been charged with anything. So how are people supposed to feel when the police, who are supposed to protect them, act just the opposite?

Please show where Sowell said that, and "perhaps" me as well is nothing but hyperbole from you.

If you support that mayor and states attorney that's your business but they have cost and continue to cost the city dearly in dollars and misery for their own ambitions.

I should have known she was one of us - the tip off being ‘she gets it’... Thanks for setting me straight MrB ... I get sloppy sometimes.

You got me all wrong.

I have relatives that are cops. One is a homicide detective. I like and support the police.

HOWEVER.... my point is still valid. Police officers have an impossible job that, for the most part, is merely for revenue generation rather than crime control, and they get paid squat and are constantly crapped on. Frequently by their own bosses and politicians. More and more people are considering them targets rather than their friends.

For right or wrong reasons, Police work is not a good career choice.

For the record, I frequently get speeding tickets; deservedly so. I pay them and I don’t beotch about them. My most recent one was a doozy! But.... I do often wonder whose house is being robbed or car stolen when I see cops sitting at a speed trap. ;-)
