National Journal provides a look inside as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) attempts to convince key conservatives that he can unite the GOP:
[E]ight months out from the Iowa caucuses, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is closer to proving it can be done. Because after walking into a Tysons Corner hotel in May, the door closing behind him, Cruz delivered something none of his competitors coulda campaign plan that has persuaded some of the most influential conservatives in America that they might defeat the GOP establishments candidate for the first time in a generation.
This has been the stuff of dreams and schemes among conservative leaders since George W. Bush left the White House. Convinced that Republicans nominated a moderate in the past two presidential elections because the conservative vote was splinteredand certain that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Mitt Romney lost in November because the GOP base didnt turn outthis clutch of right-wing activists wants desperately to prevent a third act. Do not impute motives to me Freepers.
I am a conservative. The only president for whom I have ever helped get elected was Reagan. The contradictory positions Cruz takes just indicates the fact that he has his own cronies to please.
To me, the retention of illegals and increases in work visas smack of a particular form of corporist cronyism. It will destroy us.
LOL, nope, some of us understand what is free trade and about legal immigration.
Who has a prayer if neither of them has the nomination. Who do you support?
Well, if you are mad about the retention of illegals, and you blame Cruz, I don’t believe the other BS you said on this page.
Who do you support? How could you support Reagan and not someone like Cruz.
Sorry, but your explanation doesn’t hold water.
I can support Reagan and not Cruz because Reagan kept a few illegals and did not increase work visas as does Cruz. Cruzs’position on increasing work visas may get him big corporate money, but will destroy our country. His support for PTP will do the same.
I have watched the destruction wrought by NAFTA free trade rather than fair trade policies on the southern border up close and personally for over thirty years. My love for my country and family forces my position.
TPP I meant.
