Florida Gov. Signs Bill to Require U.S. Made Flags
NBC Miami ^ | 6/11

Cities, counties and the state of Florida will have to purchase state and American flags made in the United States under a bill signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott.

Scott signed the "All American Flag Act" and 47 other bills on Thursday. He also vetoed a bill related to the licensing and regulation of engineers.

Local government and state agencies will have to start following the flag mandate after Jan. 1. Information compiled by legislative staff showed the vast majority of flags bought in the state are already American-made.

The flag bill triggered a debate on the House floor.

Some Republicans said they could not support the legislation because they said it was anti-competitive. But other lawmakers said that taxpayer money should not be spent on flags made in other countries like China.

If they were made in England or Australia I wouldn’t mind. or even Taiwan. But China? ouch.

It’s not anti-competitive domestically, and that is good enough for me, in this case.

At the shortline railroad I used to work at, every Flag Day, all kids riding the passenger train would receive a free little American Flag. The event was coming up and so I reached out to the local chapter of the DAR because I knew they had handouts with the U.S. Flag Code. A nice lady brought a half a case of booklets. Next, I went to check the flags that the office woman bought... (she was the same person making the souvenir and toy purchaces for the gift shop in the train station). What she ordered (from Oriental Trading Company... you see where this is going?) were 3"x5" PAPER flags stuck onto a bamboo bottle rocket stick. The printing was out of register and the colors were off, but the final straw was seeing right there ON THE FACE OF THE FLAG in the lower right hand corner "MADE IN CHINA". I mean, right there actually printed in black ink right there on the bottom stripe.

I nearly went and punched the bovine who bought these things right in her ignorant mouth... instead I found a source online for a family business right here in the USA that was making nice little 3"x5" cloth hand flags like for parades, or putting in a little stand on your desk. They were not fancy... just a little flag on a hardwood dowel. I bought a couple hundred of them for a dollar each and paid for it out of my own wallet. I bet someone out there still has one of those.

for local, state, or federal govts to spend tax payer money on American flags that are not produced by Americans ... is just wrong headed.

to claim it’s anti competitive implies everything made in America is anti-competitive... which is just the mantra of the go-go globalists and progressives trying to offshore everything in the country

As long as the purchase is competitively bid. Some of the prices on Made In The USA flags are outrageous.

“As long as the purchase is competitively bid. Some of the prices on Made In The USA flags are outrageous.”......

Get American bids only. IMO, supporting American flag manufacturers is being patriotic.

Competitively bid by someone using slave labor and actively plotting to destroy your economy? Sounds great....

I have no clue why patriotic merchandise is not all made in the US. It shouldn't have to be a law; consumers should be demanding it.

What irks me the most is Christmas cards printed in China. If they're printed in a heathen country, I throw them away.

What about regulation forcing flag makers to warranty their flags ???

Even American made are not surviving a year in the outdoors. I don’t fly anymore cause I cant afford replacements year after year.

Slave labor in the USA? You misunderstand. Competitive bid within the Buy American restriction. Not give the contract to a Rodham.

Costco has USA made 3x5 flags, pole, mount. $30. Sewn stripes and embroidered stars. The material is not the fine nylon I like but we’ll see.

I had a nice sewn flag a few years ago. Noticed one day it was made in China. Never flew it again.

I’ll tell you something that burns me..Seeing government road graders, bulldozers, etc. foreign brands.
IMO local, state, federal governments should buy American. Even if they cost more.
It’s time to take our manufacturing back.

NO,no, I refer to the foreign sourced goods made with slave labor.

Of course, good ol’ Murican “businessmen” are busy replacing American citizens with “undocumented persons” who work cheap for cash under the table.Or just work cheap, period.
