I's hard to think of a more bizarre story, or one more representative of contemporary America, than that of Rachel Dolezal. Dolezal is an academic and activist who represented herself as African American for many years, earning a degree in Africana studies, even ascending to the position of president of the Spokane, Wash., chapter of the NAACP.

The NAACP is standing behind Dolezal, stressing that “racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying criteria for NAACP leadership.” But there are additional questions regarding, among other things, her position on a local police council. When applying to the Spokane police ombudsman commission, she indicated a racial category of black, which if untrue would violate the city ethics code.
Dolezal, for her part, acknowledged that her biological parents are two self-identified Caucasians, but has thus far refused to elaborate.
The story has predictably been catnip to our pundit class, provoking commentary ranging from the outraged to the sympathetic to the amused. Almost everyone, however, has been shocked — shocked that someone would act this way and shocked that someone could pull it off. I am shocked that people are shocked. Rachel Dolezal was inevitable. We made her.

One article I read referred to her parents as “a Caucasian couple who claim to be her parents”. They have her legal birth certificate, which names them as her parents, as well as pictures of her as a child.

Yes, and he seems to have meant it. A movie that was made while MLK was alive, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? about an interracial romance, has the son (played by Sidney Poitier) in the romance saying to his father:
"Dad, you're my father. I'm your son. I love you. I always have and I always will. But you think of yourself as a colored man. I think of myself as a man." (cf. here)
That is what conservatives want men to think of themselves as: men. Not white men, not black men, not red men, not yellow men, not rainbow men, MEN. (That includes Bruce Jenner, but I digress.) And women to think of themselves as women, not white women, not black women, not red women, not yellow women, not rainbow women, WOMEN. In the world that King and Poitier wanted, the only problem Rachel would have would be finding a productive job, because she wouldn't have had to con the NAACP into making her executive director in Spokane, because there would be no need for an NAACP, because there would be no CP or WP or AP or IP, only P.

i supervised over 50 people at a presentations center in NYC investment bank. Every race, creed and color I worked with. Treated everyone the same and was very well liked and respected. And they were mostly liberals.

And, If I remeber correctly, only 10% of Americans do not have some genetic “black” in them. So..... We’re all pretty much black if we want to be.
I’m getting the feeling that a couple of leftists just realized the point of “labels” and definition standards. Which is hilarious. The Tower of Babel is being built right now and eventually it falls in on itself. Personally, I can’t wait.
