Battle brewing over logging, grazing at state parks

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Conservationists are drawing a line in the scrubland, vowing to fight any attempt by the state to expand logging and cattle grazing throughout Florida's 171 state parks.

Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Jon Steverson, appointed in December by Gov. Rick Scott, set off a furor last month when he suggested in a series of newspaper guest columns that Florida expand grazing and timber harvesting in its state parks as a way to offset the cost of running them.

In the columns, which ran in newspapers throughout Florida, Steverson said state parks hosted more than 27 million visitors last year and his department is committed to maintaining them as places "where the next generation of Floridians and visitors can continue to enjoy our state's diverse natural and cultural sites."......

...Some have opened lands to private concerns like cattle grazing and timbering. Others have rented space for cell towers and billboards. Some are considering "glamping" — glamorous camping, where campers are charged high prices for ritzy-style campgrounds with expensive amenities.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has suggested state parks in Wisconsin stand on their own with no funding at all from state coffers. Lawmakers in Alabama are considering cutting $10 million from the state's parks budget, which could shutter some parks there.....

The Green Global Gang has taken the words "conservation" and "conservationists" - they are hiding themselves and their intentions by calling themselves thus.

“Conservation” used to mean that the land wasn’t developed or destroyed by gold or strip mining or some such. Land and the flora and fauna on are usable renewable commodities. Conserving them used to include using them. Now we put them under glass and are lucky if we are allowed to walk around them.

Conservation means using the land responsibly.

You fish, you stock.

You mine, you restore.

You log, you replant.

The Green Global Gang are the poachers best friends. Likewise for any that glean precious metals, stones or anything else found in the woods that need privacy and freedom from the ‘authorities’.

Cash Flowed to Clinton Foundation Amid Russian Uranium Deal

"...At the heart of the tale are several men, leaders of the Canadian mining industry, who have been major donors to the charitable endeavors of former President Bill Clinton and his family. Members of that group built, financed and eventually sold off to the Russians a company that would become known as Uranium One.,,,

....“Should we be concerned? Absolutely,” said Michael McFaul, who served under Mrs. Clinton as the American ambassador to Russia but said he had been unaware of the Uranium One deal until asked about it. “Do we want Putin to have a monopoly on this? Of course we don’t. We don’t want to be dependent on Putin for anything in this climate.”

A Seat at the Table

The path to a Russian acquisition of American uranium deposits began in 2005 in Kazakhstan, where the Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra orchestrated his first big uranium deal, with Mr. Clinton at his side...."

Green Groups always have an angle. Their interest is not in preserving something, but in making money at others’ expense.

Common practice by American Rivers and Nature Conservancy is to first gain access and then ownership of a piece of property - usually by hounding the property owner or using the Federal Gov to shut off access to the present owner, forcing the owner to go out of business by making the property unusable/unlivable, leaving a sale as the only viable option.

Next, they sell a portion of that property to the Federal government for the price they paid for the entire property plus a small profit.

Lastly, they sell the remaining property to their members to use in the same manner as the previous owners. The proceeds of the various sales then go to pay the lavish salaries and perks for the leadership and toward the purchase of still more land to keep the ball rolling.

Politicians like B Clinton have used the power of the Fed Gov to do the same thing for campaign contributions - locking up US clean coal reserves at the behest of wealthy Indonesians, turning rare earth mines into parks.

Then you also have the “trade” federal land for private land and the “I’ll scratch your back, you scratch mine” beat goes on.

In the Florida parks, it’s essential to thin out the vegetation to stave off massive fires that would get out of control and destroy private property.

So they either permit logging or have to continue controlled burns. The smoke from controlled burns is awful. We’ve been there when it’s happening. You can’t see or breathe. Afterwards, the burned area looks horrible for months.

After burning, they do replant if necessary. They’d do the same after logging.

The conservationists’ concerns are baseless.

Yeah, and that’s where the old pacific northwest loggers royally screwed the pooch. There’s huge areas that were clearcut nearly a hundred years ago that still look like a nuke went off. Made it far too easy to demonize the industry.

While they do replant now after clear cutting, the end result leaves much to be desired. Single Selection or Group Selection logging methods leave the canopy basically intact and because the process leaves the area healthier to boot it leaves the greenies very little to complain about.
