When my kids were little we would tell them the dead raccoon in the street was just sleeping.
Maybe the reenactors will just lay down and go to sleep.
I would suggest that the Gettysburg crowd ponder what happens if half the tourists decide to skip Gettysburg in the future, and thus cut profits in half. The entire town is built onto vast amount of tourism and battle-chat. If you do something really stupid....you need to be responsible enough to know the consequences.
