I don’t think most candidates get how important the illegal immigration issue is to the working Americans. In general, illegal immigrants lower his wages, increase his taxes, increase the crime in his community, clog his emergency rooms, and lengthen his commute. Oh, but they do get him cheap lettuce in the supermarket and do gardening he might not do himself. The American worker has figured out that the trade off is just not worth it.
And, unlike the national debt, or even ISIS, this is something pols CAN fix, and quickly if they choose. This one they can’t blame on the “complexities” of international action or the impact that dealing with the debt would have on the “elderly” or the “children.” This benefits everyone . . . except Democrats.
