As Republican infighting grows, donors call for calm

WASHINGTON (AP) — Worried about "Republican on Republican violence," top party donors are taking action, with one firing off a letter calling for more civility and another seeking to block businessman Donald Trump from the debate stage altogether.

Foster Friess, a Wyoming-based investor and one of the party's top 20 donors in the last presidential contest, issued a letter to 16 White House prospects and the Republican National Committee late last week calling for candidates to stay on the "civility reservation."

"Our candidates will benefit if they all submit to Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment, 'Thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican,'" Friess wrote in a copy of the letter sent to Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus and obtained by The Associated Press.

It has already been a matter of days and he is still standing. My dad loves Trump and at first, I thought my dad was crazy. And then, I listened and I had to admit Trump was right. He was clumsy, messy, but correct. Cruz even followed his lead.

It felt good having someone speak up and not be silenced. It felt good someone speaking up and then not apologizing for the truth. It felt good that there was someone, the only one, the one candidate who understands the illegal alien issue and lets everyone know it. Could I be on the cusp...perhaps.

Foster Friess backed Santorum so its not like Rove or someone telling everyone to bend over and take it from Jeb.

The problem I see with the Republican field being so wide...

Isn’t so much the number of candidates, but it is the infighting and character attacks starting to breach the field. (Christie was the latest one I’ve seen attacking Rand!)

Why do I see this as a problem? Because republicans tend to try to be purists regarding their candidates. Unfortunately this attitude is what gives us the weak candidates we’ve seen the last several Presidential cycles. And then we complain how the GOP-e failed to produce a ‘good candidate’ for us to vote for.

I am not a Trump for President fan, but talking truth, facts, policy, is so terrifying to the others then we might be on track to separate the wheat from the chaff?

Some of us, well quite a few of us, think that illegal immigration is the all important issue. If the nation is allowed to be over run via illegal (and legal) immigration then all is lost and nothing else matters. allowing 60 million rat voting 3rd worlders in to the USA is a death sentence for our Republic.

Trump may be liberal on social issues but he gets immigration right and he's the only one that had the guts not to be PC and use weasel words on the issue. So yeah he is getting and deserves a lot of support. Finally someone is speaking up for middle/working class Americans in plain simple believable language that everyone understands.

I don't want a Republican contest defined by who does the best job of taking down other repubs. I want to see who is the best candidate who aims and hits Clinton and Obama.

For God's sake you republican idiots, quit shooting at each other (the easy target) and show some courage by demonstrating your fire power on the real targets!

You notice that Ted Cruz has been (for the most part) staying out of the infighting? Smart move on his part, especially since he wants to secure the entire Republican voter base over the next half year.

““How? Seriously how? Very few Senators like him....about 5 will guarantee to vote with him on votes and the House is not exactly thrilled with him completely....he may have 40 House Members that will vote for bills with his ideas. “

If this is your ‘serious’ question - I guess you want a RINO in the WH because they will work with the other RINOs and pass liberal legislation.

Not a great plan. May as well vote for Hillary.

The RINOs can nominate another stinking, lousy Bush if they want to, but just like the RINO liberal Rummnie, I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM!!! NO MORE STINKING BUSHES!!! I have had enough of that family. Two was enough. We don’t need another Bush to further the socialist, Skull & Bones agenda.

Don't hand me that "some of us" garbage. I'm pretty sure we all share the same viewpoint there. It isn't necessary to support a liberal Democrat to prove it.

"Trump may be liberal on social issues but he gets immigration right and he's the only one that had the guts not to be PC and use weasel words on the issue. He might be saying the right things now, throwing red meat to whomever will snap it up...fine. I have no problem with his message, but I understand that Trump is and always has been a weasel. A loud one, but a weasel nonetheless.

And he's liberal on more than social issues. He supports gun banning, he favors tax increases, and has tried to grab the private property of American citizens for his own use. The man said he identified as a Democrat.

So you go ahead and support the liberal for as long as he decides to play this thing out. I'll stick with a Constitutional conservative who's always championed those same principles.

Just don't try that nonsense game of accusing Freepers of being liberals if they don't support a liberal.

Fine just don’t try that nonsense of telling me ANYONE from the professional political class in DC will do ANYTHING to stop the invasion of illegals. Your way we lose the country, my way maybe, maybe not.

I don't accept your premise to begin with, but where is the sense in believing a liberal Democrat reality star will?

" Your way we lose the country, my way maybe, maybe not."

Right. A liberal will save the country.

My God, the insanity.

Conservatives ....yes conservatives are applauding Trump for what he is saying and advocating, but they are all to stupid to see Trump is really a liberal, huh? Ask yourself why us conservatives are so pro-Trump at this point and time, we aren’t a bunch of dummies.
