Donald Trump Says McCain No War Hero: ‘I Like People Who Weren’t Captured’
The Daily Caller ^ | 7-18-2015 | Jamie Weinstein

Donald Trump escalated his feud with Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain Saturday in a way that probably wasn’t the most politically astute.

Appearing at the 2015 Family Leadership Summit in Iowa, Trump decided to make the case that McCain is not a war hero. Asked by moderator Frank Luntz why he would call a war hero like McCain a “loser,” Trump replied, “He’s not a war hero.”

“He’s a war hero because he was captured,” Trump said sarcastically. “I like people who weren’t captured, I hate to tell you.”

McCain spent five and a half years in a North Vietnamese prison where he was routinely tortured after his plane was shot down during the Vietnam War.

After hearing boos from the crowd, Trump backed off a bit: “Perhaps he’s a war hero but right now he said some very bad things about a lot of people.”

Trump was referring to McCain calling the people who attended Trump’s recent immigration rally in Arizona “crazies.”

“This performance with our friend out in Phoenix is very hurtful to me,” McCain recently told the New Yorker magazine, speaking of Trump’s July 11 rally. “Because what he did was he fired up the crazies.”

The Washington Post reported Friday that Trump is trying to recruit a primary challenger in Arizona to try to defeat McCain in his 2016 re-election bid.

No Trump wasn’t talking about the manner in which he served at the Hanoi Hilton. He’ll never know I don’t think. Not for sure

It was dumb for him to say because the men who did serve there are great heroes of character, patriotism and strength. And Trump just insulted them for not realizing they are not war heroes for just getting shot down, so far as being great military men

Many went on to serve as military and other successful endeavors but not one of them would say they were war heroes for parachuting successfully into NVN. They know that better tgan Trump does. McCain doesn’t get it And he needs to be respectful of them or he’ll be in trouble with their people, myself included

“Patton DID say, “Lead, follow, or get out of the way!””

Yes—a true mature, intelligent, masculine male Christian (the kind which are essential for Free Republics where Virtue is essential to Freedom).

True masculinity (Paternalism) has been targeted by the Leftists for 100 years or longer. Can’t have males grow up to be like Patton in the NWO where we have to embed dependency and destroy risk-taking in our little boys to create narcissistic, puerile, “happy slaves” like Justin Bieber.

Even Patton was targeted in his day because he was SO dangerous to Leftism (Communism). He understood that “Uncle Joe” was ALL about slavery and dehumanization and wanted to destroy Freedom in all mankind.

Patton was sabotaged even within our own government-—which led to tens of thousands of more deaths and a war lasting over a year longer because they wouldn’t listen to him. They wanted to wait for the dear Soviets to be able to secure Eastern Europe and Patton knew we were deliberately selling out those countries to make them into slaves for Stalin. He knew that millions were slated to be killed by Stalin’s takeover.

I agree with your point about Trump taking
personal shots at others. He is useful in
that he says things that need to be said
and he says them in such a bombastic way
that many people think he can’t be serious
a presidential candidacy. Trump’s points,
however, are getting lost more and more in
his delivery.

Come to find that Trump was responding to McCain calling Trump’s gathering as a “bunch of crazies”?

If this is the case, give Trump some slack. It’s the political equivalent of trading “your momma’s so fat jokes”.

To me it is an issue between Trump and McCain....after all McCain started it.

Trump made a mistake, but I think McCain calling thousands of Arizonans who support Trump "crazies" is a far, far worse insult and more out-of-line than what Trump said.

But we want see many in the media pointing out how arrogant and insulting McCain was.

Coming through being a POW with honor is just that. And it can be more honorable tgan being a war hero. McCain could have stuck with that narrative instead of running around pretending he led a lot of troops in battle. Which he did not

But going through the Hanoi Hilton for 7years having been honorable by serving cell mates fellow POWs and the USA and the POW code of conduct successfully is certainly heroic. Beyond any doubt

He needs to give the POWs he insulted credit. The ones who don’t do what McCain has done

Lots to attack McCain about. Without the stellar reputations of his father and grandfather, he’d not have graduated from USNA, nor been allowed in a cockpit, not to hotdog in the air. He got away with a LOT that others wouldn’t have.

I am no fan of McCain, but for Donald “Five Deferments” Trump to disparage POWs, implying they were somehow at fault for being captured is disgraceful.

Stick a fork in him.

Adm. Stock dale on McCain: In fact, a few weeks ago I received a call from an old friend who is also close to the George W. Bush campaign soliciting comments on Mr. McCain’s “weaknesses.” As I told that caller, I think John McCain is solid as a rock.

And I consider it blasphemy to smudge the straight-arrow prisoner-of-war record of a man who was near death when he arrived at Hoa Loa prison 1967: both arms broken, left leg broken, left shoulder broken by a civilian with a rifle butt.

> “...how people on this thread are acting as if Trump insulted ALL POW’S when it is perfectly clear that he was addressing MC CAIN”

Exactly right. McCain was no hero according to the Commanding Officer of all POWs inside the Hanoi Hilton, Admiral Stockdale. He performed what was expected of him but he exhibited no heroism.

Yet in 2008 while unsuccessfully running for president McCain allowed the MSM to embellish his record as some sort of grand hero in Vietnam when it was a lie.

An honorable man would have immediately corrected the press by making a statement that his service was not heroic, that finer men than he exhibited brave acts of true heroism, that his suffering did not equate to acts of heroism.

Instead McCain allowed the lie to be perpetuated and in so allowing he stained the reputations of all true American heroes.

Suffering elicits sympathy and appreciation; embellishment invokes wrath and chastisement.

Oh he insulted all POWs who were shot down.

If you don’t know that then I’m just saying it for the sake of anyone who might be persuaded to buy your argument

A P.O.W. does not go back to make nice nice with their captors.

A P.O.W. does not forge, support, or make deals, for the country which held them captive.

John McCain, a U.S. Navy aviator, who just happened to be at the wrong end of a SAM missile, was a bargaining chip for the North Vietnamese, because they KNEW his father was an Admiral in the U.S. Navy. Sure, he survived. It IS a wonder, that the OTHER P.O.W.’s do NOT fraternize, but DO spit at his name.

Is being a P.O.W. worth any sort of military decoration? I believe that all the P.O.W.’s of WW2 would say NO. I believe that the P.O.W.’s of Korea would say NO. Does being a P.O.W. equate to all those who fought, and were either injured or killed in action in South Vietnam, and given ‘military decorations’ posthumously? NO.

Therefore, being a P.O.W., and coming home, meant you survived, but invites the question of “How?”

John McCain prostituted his being a P.O.W. for personal gain, and as history has it recorded, on the backs of all the veterans that he has always voted “NO” when voting on veterans’ Congressional bills.

Getting shot down does not make one a hero. What you do in captivity makes you a hero. From reliable testimony of other POWs, the ones that will actually speak against other POWs, something they don’t like to do, McCain got preferential treatment and was anything but a hero. It is absolute fact that he and his other “hero” buddy John Kerry belittled the families of POWs and put an end to any search for them, inspite of many reliable accounts of them being left behind. Both Kerry and McCain wanted to open up Vietnam for business ventures and both the treasonous traitors got exactly what they wanted.
