The program goes on and on about the millions of cubic yards of ocean bottom this ship can suck on board and move somewhere else, about all the great things this ship is doing in Asia, building megaprojects to keep the Asian economies afloat.
I didn't hear even one single mention of the word "ecology." Nothing about the disturbance of "sensitive ecosystems." Nothing about how this or that project is "endangering the only known habitat of the rare Asian Sea Snape" or whatever manufactured species would be used to stop an American project in its tracks.
And it occurred to me, as I watched, that the entire "ecology" thing has been nothing but a multi-decade PR stunt to slow down the American economy and give our competitors around the globe a chance to catch up.
That's all. 100%. There's nothing else to it besides that.
Other countries, other cultures, have no compunctions whatsoever about plundering nature because they have to eat.
