“A lot of the Republican vote stayed home”

That was certainly demonstrated when Romney got ONE MILLION MORE votes than McCain did in 2008.

They have been voting against their interests for a long time

I think the blacks are more astute about what is in their interests than you are.

But can Trump get Christian vote?

It's a given that what you call the "Christian vote" can defeat any Republican.

It's not clear that the "Christian vote" can elect a dogcatcher, however.

One reason Republicans lose is that Pro-Lifers have the lowest voter turnout of any group that has a position on any political issue. I’ve repeatedly gone to people who have pro-life bumper stickers and asked them to register to vote. I’ve given them the forms to fill out and suggested they fill them out while I wait. Then I can hand deliver them to the County Clerk with the other registration forms (300 in 1 8 month period was my best).

The Pro-Lifers say that they will pray about it. Three elections later they are still praying about it. I tell them prayer is a 2-way street and God has told me that they should register and vote pro-life. They get mad at me for suggesting that.

Another group are the Pro-Lifers who just can’t believe a candidate is sufficiently pro-life. I campaigned for Pat O’Malley, IL, the most conservative and most pro-life politician to be found anywhere in IL. He is pro-life, no excetions. The pro-lifers would not believe that he was sufficiently pro-life to deserve their vote.

“Teach them a lesson” is another type of voter. They think that somehow not voting will move the party more their direction, which of course is the total opposite of the truth. Every time an ideolog (left or right) stays home to “teach em a lesson” it always moves the party in the unintended direction as the professionally offended are written off.

Until Rush (and many others) figure out a way to reach the above voters (and probably voters with other excuses) the Mitts and Jebs will always have the edge in the debate and that extra 4% of white voters will never materialize.

Surprising how many Christian haters there are on FR, but then that is a sign of the times I guess.

I hope you’re not calling me a Christian hater. I’m a devout Christian, raising seven Christian children.

All I said is that the so-called “Christian vote” can deny an otherwise conservative candidate victory, but can’t, on its own, elect anybody to anything.

Maybe you missed the part when the Boss said, “2 they shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.”

The time is now.

Well I taking a lot of heat for say posting this:

“Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task.
Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)
He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.
He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.
In the same way, deacons[b] are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.
They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.
They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
In the same way, the women[c] are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.
A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.
Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.”
1 Timothy 3:1-13

And saying that Ted Cruz is the only candidate that meets this criteria

I dispute that 73% of the country is Christian. If it were, we wouldn’t be so screwed up as we are. I would say the actual number of believing Christians is 15-30% of the country’s population.

Trump has turned his attention to the illegals now here in our country. He said he’d “take care of the dreamers.” The criminals are out. What about the other millions? He says they would be put on a path to earn citizenship. Sounds like Jeb. We are still going to be totally invaded especially when those here bring in their nice big families.

When you have known some of those who think Lincoln was a Democrat and George Wallace was a Republican and all the old slavemasters and slavetraders were Republicans and the Republicans started the KKK and stood in the schoolhouse doors to keep black children out of white schools it is hard to see how they can be very astute about anything.
