So if it takes “minutes” to get an illegal gun, why would those seeking to do so bother with “buying one over the counter”???????
Cry me a river, leech.
The pointlessness of background checks.
God Bless America...Or half of it anyway.
I'd like to know WHERE I can buy an illegal gun "over the counter".....I'd like to have a Thompson Machine Gun M1A.....
Why even post inane sh!t like this?
Firearm dealers (with an FFL) have to fill out the 4473 along with the purchaser, establish the identity of the purchaser, and get the background check info from the Feds. That is Federal Law.
Those are legal guns.
Illegal guns are acquired by purchasing them from people dealing in stolen goods, modifying a legal firearm, or by stealing one.
There are laws against that already.
People who can pass background checks are generally not the people who cause problems. Something about their lack of a Felonious background makes them less likely to commit a Felony in the future, even though there are no guarantees.
So why wait and fill out all that paperwork, especially if a person has a crime of passion in mind, when they can just go to the hardware store, buy an ax, and go all Lizzie Borden on their victim? In and out for about 20 bucks, no wait longer than the checkout line.Yes, for the uninitiated, that last paragraph is sarcasm.
I don't get it, how could they be getting guns, if they have no business having them? Does the author feel that he and his ilk are the sole granters of who would and should not have guns? Does he feel he knows better than others about who should be able to buy a gun? I thought gun laws helped weed people who shouldn't legally have guns out? If that's the case then he should be fully behind THIS guns law, just like all the others he wants to support. Or, does he just get to pick and choose which gun laws are "good"?
Amazingly enough there is no mention of the Milwaukee County DA office and the large majority of Milwaukee County judges who do not prosecute gun offenses as part of their trying to help the disadvantaged black community in Milwaukee. This was a philosophy that DA John Chilsolm, Mayor Tom Barrett, and Chief Ed Flynn have specifically gotten behind.
Sheriff David Clarke has been outspoken about the lack of prosecution of gun crime here in Milwaukee yet not one mention of that in the article.
No mention of the “no chase” rule with City of Milwaukee Police and its numerous other non crime reducing policies. The gun violence taking place in this city is done by multiple offense criminals that are released by lenient judges and prosecutors here in Milwaukee, period.
The waiting times have nothing to do with it since if it was all about access to guns causing violence whites, Asians, and Hispanics would be killing each other at the volumes blacks are in the City.
But go ahead Jennifer keep blaming the white guy in Madison when the community leaders in the City where blacks are killing each other are held completely unaccountable for what’s going on.
Freaking hack.
The story is based on an invalid premis ... There is no such thing as an “illegal gun”, there are just unconstitutional laws.
So let’s pass more laws. Yeah, that will work.
Now how can that be, the background check itself can take up to an hour?!
A piece of slander against our governor and against the concealed carry laws in our state, courtesy of Bloomberg.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin iterest ping list.
What is an “illegal gun”?
If it takes minutes to get one illegally, why in heaven’s name should a good guy have to wait for any length of time to get one legally?
It just wouldn’t be fair.
-—demand a waiting period
Eliminating the waiting period was duly passed by the Legislature reflecting the will of the people.
A few years back when I had some business in England, it took me less time to arrange for the rental [if I used it, I bought it] of a 9mm Makarov handgun for three weeks than it did for me to clear customs.
I had my choice of a couple of other possible handguns, but the Mak had a pretty decent supply of frash ammunition, and the use of a shoulder holster was thrown in on the deal. I had it, so of course, I didn't need it- as things turned out.
