Trump has no need for spokespeople. He strode into the spin room himself to declare victory and force the GOP into an existential crisis.
Donald Trump won the Republican debate, according to Donald Trump.
“It’s the story of my life, I guess,” Trump told reporters after his performance. By that he meant: People are needlessly hard on him, but he is so great and so fabulous that he always prevails in the end.

Before Trump even made it out to the “spin room,” (so titled because its purpose, established in 1984 by the Reagan campaign, is to give candidates and their operatives a chance to lie to reporters, or “spin” them, in political jargon, moments after the debate ends) he had declared victory in a press release that read, “Donald J. Trump Excels at First Republican Primary Debate.”
This was a vastly different tactic from what was employed by the rest of the nine candidates who shared Trump’s stage. (Trump was, by virtue of being the frontrunner, granted the center spot onstage which is, objectively, the best and classiest position one could have.)
Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, and Scott Walker could not be found in the windowless spin room, which was actually less of a room and more of a large corner, a few feet away from the press area, complete with RNC, Facebook, and Ohio GOP-branded backdrop.
In those candidates’ places were aides and advisers and advocates and spokespeople, each standing beneath a large, upward-arrow shaped sign, emblazoned with the candidates name and held in the air by a masochistic RNC volunteer. They did great, each campaign said of its candidate. Everybody won! It’s like Little League.

I like some of what Trump is saying but he smacks of Obama.......a narcissist who is ‘always right’. Except when Trump is Left.
Its all opinion of course but I dont see Trumps attitude as narcissistic like Obama. I see it more as faux arrogance a la Rush Limbaugh style. More sarcastic and purposeful. Whereas obama can’t help it or hide it.

Narcissists do quite well and lead a lot of institutions because they tend to be very charming (and confident) and they so value admiration that they work very hard for it.
Most pols—or at least male pols, since more men than women are that way—are probably narcissists.

This narcissistic behavior thrives in a culture in decline, like ours. It started becoming more evident with the election of JFK & has become much worse. Bill Clinton was infected with it to a high degree, but was still somewhat aware of reality....the current president is the worst case I have ever seen in public life.
Trump continues to be a valuable CANDIDATE.
His attacking style has caused all the other candidates to sharpen up and deal with a couple actual issues. He has challenged opponents on specific issues and done very well at exposing soft spots. However, last night, his attacks mostly exposed his weak spots (his snarky comments to Kelly came across as very weak). I hope he hangs around another 6-8 weeks continuing to be aggressive, but then he will need to step back and let the remaining 5 or so duke it out.
With few exceptions, ‘the 10’ dodged all night, Trump included. I thought the Huck’ster, Ben, Cruz and Walker actually answered questions and did well.
I’m a big Cruz fan and believe he did well, but Ben and Walker stepped up big time. Ain’t over till it’s over.

Obama is a Malignant Narcissist. It’s not a trivial distinction.
Trump does seem to be in love with the same one letter word that Obama loves so much. With the same two letter word coming in a close second.
Supposedly we’re raising more narcissists with every generation.

Let’s go for 8 years of Trump. It will take at least that long to get rid of the smell.
Agreed, Trump is a showman, he knows how to put on a show. However, unlike Obama (or a true narcissist) he gets things done. Trump is not an all hat no cattle type, so to claim he’s a narcissist at his core is a bit over the top.
He’s great at self promotion and knows how to use it to his benefit to get things done, not to simply stroke his ego. Don’t get me wrong he has one, and I am sure its no small one, but Trump is no narcissist.
I think everyone performed well last night except Trump and Paul. They both seemed to lose control of themselves in uncomfortable, unpresidential ways.
I’d say Kasich and Carson had “gaps” in their knowledge or style where they just don’t seem ready for prime time.
I can’t fault Cruz, Walker, Bush, Rubio, Christie or Huckabee on performance. They all seemed knowledgeable and presidential. Ultimately, Cruz is the only one of those I agree with on virtually every issue, and trust his mind enough to expect he’ll be able solve any new problems that come up, so I’ll continue to back him.
