The first debate is over but many questions still remain. It is unfortunate that candidates are only given a minute to make their point and 30 seconds for any potential rebuttal.
Personally, my interest in the debates is to understand a candidate's policies and what he intends to do as president.
So, ignoring the gotcha questions of Megyn Kelly to Donald Trump ( i.e. War on Women crap ), here are two follow up questions I have for Trump:
1) HEALTHCARE
During the first GOP debate, moderator Bret Baier said to Donald Trump, "15 years ago, you called yourself a liberal on health care. You were for a single-payer system, a Canadian-style system."
"As far as single payer, it works in Canada," Trump replied. "It works incredibly well in Scotland. It could have worked in a different age, which is the age you're talking about here." Trump didn't explain what might have changed in the last 15 years that would prevent the United States from adopting Canadian-style health care.
QUESTION: Since they work well ( Note that Trump did not use past tense ), why is he then not advocating the adoption of something that "works well"?
2) ABORTION
Trump said he was pro-choice before but became pro-life when he saw some friends who considered abortion change their minds and eventually seeing their children to grow up to be excellent human beings ( he used the word : " Champions" ).
Good for his friends.
However, the argument of abortion advocates is precisely the opposite. Women need abortion because they are poor and unable to bring up their children. They prefer to abort the fetus before it becomes a child and grow up to be a gang member, disabled or dysfunctional.
Would you change your mind on abortion if some of your friends had children who are dysfunctional?
So, Trump, the ball is in your court, please explain what you said ....
And I thought I wasted band width.
Trump is a chump. He’s switched sides to fool and dupe people as if he were repackaging some product to sell. Was he a conservative when he gave Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, and Clinton money? When I hear him constantly boasting, I think of Luke 14:11.
Lol!
I’m with you on Trump, still sounds liberal to me. He’s just lipstick on a pig.
What I like about Trump is he is freaking out all of the RINO’s and liberals.
If they run Bush, Huckebee, Kascish or a couple of the other socialist republicans I’ll vote for whoever is on the 3rd party ticket, because I know the republicans are in bed or on their knees to the Democrat Fascist Party.
On January 1, 2000 our total national debt was $5,751,743,092,605.50.
On August 6, 2015 our total national debt was $18,151,284,784,984.56.
Here are our labor participation rates over the past 15 yeaers 2000 (67.3%) vice today (62.6%):
Maybe with increased debt servicing costs and lower labor participation rates since 2000, single payer becomes impossible to implement. It should be noted that we already have single payer health care (Medicare - 47 million and Medicaid - 80 million). Both are bankrupting us but I see no GOP candidate calling for an end to both programs.
Very difficult to answer any major topic in a minute sound bite. Book hits the shelf this week
Nephew?? has downs syndrome
He was not only pro abortion, he was pro partial-birth abortion (which he didn’t deny when asked at the debate).
Stop saying he’s freaking out the RINOs. Trump literally is a RINO. He changes parties for political expediency, not out of conviction.
” However, the argument of abortion advocates is precisely the opposite. Women need abortion because they are poor and unable to bring up their children. They prefer to abort the fetus before it becomes a child and grow up to be a gang member, disabled or dysfunctional.”
Wait, what?
Women need abortion because they are selfish and irresponsible. They would rather murder their unborn child than take responsibility and perhaps be inconvenienced. Babies are a result, not an accident.
Cant’t stand the bitch, but there is nothing wrong with that back side.
Uh....Hillary was a Goldwater Girl before turning to the dark side.
Reagan a New Deal Democrat before giving us the best presidency of our lives.
Lots of others....Google away.
Could it be that people can and do change for better or worse over a lifetime?
Nah. That sounds too much like that hokey Jesus stuff?...I say sarcastically. Pray we all are found and saved on the road to Damascus.
But that is just my opinion today and I don’t feel strongly about it.
You’re trying to do to Megan Kelly exactly what Obama did to Joe the Plumber after Joe asked Obama a pointed question. And it’s disgraceful.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Joe the Plumber was just a working stiff with a question.
Megyn Kelly is a self-absorbed smartass with an agenda driven attitude.
If you don’t see the difference, that’s your fault.
A single-payer system has been thought about since W.W. II, Truman certainly supported one. The question always was could it really work and be fair? I think the answer is no and we have only to look at Canada and the UK to see that.
There will never be any peace with the Abortion issue. The problem is that it is the ultimate hot button issue where any kind of rational logical debate is impossible. It is a total Grey area sink hole. A lot of people have changes their views on Abortion. I will cite Warren Beatty as one, he supported Pro-Choice for years until he married and has children and then totally changed his position on it. I will also pint out that actor Jack Nicholson has been a staunch supporter of Pro-Life for most of his life, contrary to what people might think. Trump may have similarly changed his mind for some reason.
On any number of issues or personal beliefs people can change their minds and evolve their thinking over a period of time and perhaps Trump has.
Sorry, we cannot discuss the real issues about Trump.
The media wants its trophy and Trump wants his delicate ego nurtured and stroked, the issues that really matter can just go to hell.
This country is screwed.
