A Nevada girl who says her high school forbid her from starting a pro-life club is fighting back.
Angelique Clark says she wanted to start a pro-life group on her schools campus but was denied by the administration because abortion was controversial, would make people feel left out, and that others were more qualified to talk about the issue.
Clark teamed up with the religious legal group the Thomas More Society to file a lawsuit against her school, the West Career and Technical Academy, and the Clark County School District.
When I first applied to form a pro-life club, I never imagined I would have to sue my school to be able to exercise my free speech rights, Clark, a junior at the academy, said in a statement. My fellow pro-life students and I simply want to make our voices heard and to educate other students on a topic thats important to us choosing life. We hope for a quick resolution that allows us to get the West Career and Technical Academy Pro-Life Club up and running as soon as possible.
A spokeswoman from the school district told The Daily Caller News Foundation they have not yet been served and do not comment on pending litigation.
We are proud of Angelique for not allowing her school administrators to trample her free speech rights, said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America. She is determined to be a voice for the preborn and their mothers, even though shes been faced with so much resistance, stated Hawkins, adding, We are thankful for our attorneys at the Thomas More Society who are standing up for Angeliques right to form a Students for Life club.
Once again, it is those whose egg-shaped heads exist within the ivory tower of indoctrination/education espousing that the philosophy of free speech exists, yet cordoning off their real estate as a no free speech - no free thought area.
Yeah, good luck with that young lady. Maybe she should try to start a young republicans club too. No? ANY lib cause, you betcha.
We successfully started a young Republicans club in my HS. Same HS had FFA which I was in as well. I imagine both clubs no longer exist.
Is there a pro-choice club at the school? If there is, just a bit of liberal hypocrisy going on there ....
Of course there is. Multiple pro-choice clubs:
When I was in high school in the late 1950’s a yellow school bus used to park on school property every Wednesday morning. It was owned by Youth for Christ, a local youth ministry organization, and held weekly Bible study classes for half an hour before school. By as early as the mid-1970’s interest had declined and they stopped the services. Really sad because for many students it was the only exposure they had to the Bible, even back then.
My kid is currently the pres. of FFA at his school. :) It still exists in our neck of the woods. Pretty conservative bunch, thank goodness.
Most likely not. Forced out because some “teacher” was offended probably. Used to have pu trucks with rifles in the racks in the high school parking lot. Never an issue. Now I think they’re umbrella racks. :>}
A good going, girl. If I had done money I’d help your case.
Schools should just stick the 3 Rs. No more. No less.
Is a pro-abort club permitted?
The high school in my town has FFA. Prizewinning cattle and hogs, along with the beaming teenagers who raised them, make the local paper. Front page, top of the fold.
what, the zombies would feel left out?
