The Ventura County Star reports that a Chipotle in Simi Valley closed for a short time last week after nearly 60 customers and 17 employees complained about feeling ill following a visits to the restaurant on August 18 and 19.

For now the cause of the outbreak, which sent some people to the hospital, remains unknown.

Mike Byrne, Ventura County Environmental Health Division food safety supervisor, says that inspectors and specialists are following up with those who became sick to try to determine if the illnesses stemmed from a specific food problem or if changes are needed make sure food is safe. I guarantee you if dozens were made sick at a Cracker Barrel, the media would be all over the place reporting the news.

Mexican food from Mexico prepared by Mexicans. What could possibly go wrong?

It’s Americanized Mexican food, not from Mexico, prepared by the usual crowd of fastfood employees. Pretty good stuff too if you order right.

Chipotle is the only chain restaurant we use. I hope they get this straightened out.

It’s also CA, big on “organic” veggies. The standard definition of organic vegetables should be vegetables shit on by mexicans.

I wonder how much Mexican grown cilantro they used at that Chipotle. But then again one of the hardest things I ever had to drill into employees was sanitation, sanitation, sanitation. I once was courted by Boston Market and was to spend a day in one of their locations to see how we liked each other, I left after three hours because of the conditions in the operation. I’m not condemning all Boston markets, my issue was if this is a location that is supposed to be a training store I want nothing to do with them.

Most that I’ve seen are staffed by mostly hispanics who barely speak English.

Not a fan of mex food anyway.

No more so than anyplace else. In the modern food world most employees are hispanic, regardless of the nationality of the food.

Billy Mays in South Park:

” Well now there’s a product that can clean even bloodstains caused by Chipotle right off your underwear. Chipotl-away. [shows off the bottle, which says Chipotlaway. What follows is a demonstration of how the product works] Just one Chipotle burrito [shown] can leave up to a quarter cup of underwear blood [a quarter cup of red liquid is poured onto the briefs], but Chipotl-away [a couple of squirts of it makes the liquid vanish] makes your underwear clean [a towel is used to remove the liquid and product] and ready for more. [a man is shown stocking up on briefs, but they slip from his arms] Stop buying new underwear every time you eat Chipotle. That can cost you thousands. Chipotl-away gets rid of bloodstains and leaves underwear good as new. [a pair of black hands smooths some briefs out over a table, then puts the Chipotle burrito on it] Imagine having underwear so clean you can practically eat off of it. “

See #5. I appreciate and eat “Mexican” food frequently.

I know that. Too many of the Chinese restaurants are staffed with Mexican cooks. Anytime I see that I turn around and leave or never go there again. The quality of food in those cases is usually poor. Seen the same thing in other restaurants as well.

Precisely what I was thinking.

Even at the top end restaurants most of the back of the house is hispanic. They rule the industry now, and the food is no more likely to be bad than it was in the days before they took over.

I’m not sure that any of those things is true. They can’t wrap a burrito to save their life, too.

That’s my uninformed position and I’m stickin’ to it. Not unlike some of Trump’s pronouncements.

I would differ on the no more likely to be bad. I’ve seen the quality of food drop drastically in most restaurants from the bottom to the top end establishments. A local station covers food inspections of local places on a weekly basis. Those reports also show a decline in quality control, sanitation, training for a lot of them, many don’t do well with the follow-up inspection either. Not a good sign.

This is why I no longer eat restaurant food.

Who knows what third-worlder with which diseases is touching your food?

You must be going to the wrong places. I’ve seen the quality go up. Food in America has just plain gotten better in the last 20 years.
