REPUBLICANS CHASING AN HISPANIC UNICORN
Breitbart.com ^ | August 27, 2015 | Mike Flynn

There is no greater political miscalculation, or fraud, than the notion that Republicans have to “moderate” their positions on immigration reform in order to appeal to Hispanic voters. This fiction began with President George W. Bush’s aborted attempt at comprehensive immigration reform in early 2007.

Thankfully someone is not intimidated by the meme that all minority voters love fascists and illegal aliens, and Black Panthers, and that Repubs can’t even hope for that minority vote.

It’s a LIE and I wish Trump would get on with it and go prove it.

“If Romney had won 71 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2012 instead of 27 percent, he still would have lost. On the other hand, had he won just 4 percent more of the white vote, he would have won.” —Ann Coulter

Fed up of hearing how we should not stand for the rule of ;law because Hispanics won’t vote for us.

Those saying that are the racists then , because not all Hispanics want illegal activity . Many Hispanics want legal immigration like they did

"Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted July 8-Aug. 23, 2015, on the Gallup U.S. Daily survey, with a random sample of 2,183 Hispanic adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia."

NOT VOTERS or even LIKELY VOTERS.

Probably illegal aliens.

The Hispanics that are conservative and share conservative values will vote for Republicans. Those that are not conservative will not vote Republican. It is really that simple.

Chasing the “Hispanic Vote” is stupid. Chasing the conservative “Hispanic Vote” is smart. We should promise them nothing because they are Hispanic. We should promise to make an environment that promotes job growth for all.

Maybe, but without minority votes the GOP would have to win 65% of the White vote to win, and they haven't won that big a share since Reagan.

So says George Will today.

“Maybe, but without minority votes the GOP would have to win 65% of the White vote to win, and they haven’t won that big a share since Reagan.”

This is why conservatism, as a national ideology is dead over the long term. We lost in 1965 when we allowed Ted Kennedy to place the country on the demographic path that it is now on. Buchanan spelled it out back in Death of the West in 2001, and there’s nothing we can do now to change it.

However, over the near term, there is an opportunity for a candidate like Trump to capture something like 65% or even 70% of the white vote by appealing to working class whites. Note that Romney got 59% of the white vote as a corporatist. The candidate who can increase the white vote total over that number has to be a populist: someone willing to take on immigration, “free” trade, and yes, someone willing to raise taxes somewhat on the wealthy, while holding onto libertarians by deemphasizing social issues.

Call it “white populism” or “traditionalism”. It gives us brief window, maybe four election cycles if we’re lucky, to make some structural changes to prepare the country for the post-America America of 2050.

The Bushes have done incalculable harm to the GOP with their infatuation with all things Latino and their Quixotic pursuit of the Latino vote starting with W’s stupid amnesty pushes in 2006 and 2007.

They win no new Latino votes while constantly offending and insulting the GOP base, causing many to sit out elections. But none of that keeps the Bushes from doubling down on stupid.

The party would benefit greatly if the Bush family would simply retire from politics and disappear.

"Fed up of hearing how we should not stand for the rule of law because Hispanics won’t vote for us. Those saying that are the racists then , because not all Hispanics want illegal activity . Many Hispanics want legal immigration like they did" Me, too. My wife was born in Mexico, and became naturalized about 10 years ago. You should see how ticked off (Latin ticked) she gets at the very idea of amnesty! Every time the subject comes up, she wants me to call our Congressman and demand back all of the money we spent on various INS and attorney fees to have her be 100% legal. She also goes nuts when I run lights and stop signs - she's not a fan of anything illegal (unless you count the excessive Scoville units that she puts in food as attempted murder).

The simple fact is that when you have a sufficiently large group of people that share some characteristic, invariably the larger numbers put them all over the map on a whole host of other characteristics. So, NO, not all Hispanics are in favor of illegal immigration - for that matter, I've met some who believe that we should cut back on ALL immigration to some degree until our economy recovers more and more people HERE get jobs (they sound positively Trump-like). Many Hispanics are plenty conservative, since those are their religious/social roots. Those that aren't are, in my admittedly-limited personal experience, are part of the Free $hit Army (and, again, EVERY ethnic, racial and religious group you could name has members in the FSA, just as they have members that oppose the FSA at every turn).

100% on point.

41 and 43 did do quite a number of good things, but on balance were raging moderates who did nothing great for the Pubbies, and certainly nothing great for conservatism (even if SOME of the things that they did, like 43’s tax cut, were pretty conservative in nature).

For once I agree with Jesse Jackson: “Get out ‘da Bushes!”

“An Hispanic Unicorn”?

No such thing. All unicorns in the U.S. are American unicorns.

Hispanic unicorns must live in Hispanvokia or somewhere.

If Republicans are stuck at 30% or so of the Hispanic vote, seems to me that they should then try REALLY HARD for the WHITE VOTE, as they really have no place else to go.

But they, or really ‘they’ minus one candidate, REFUSE TO DO IT. Which is why Trump is CLEANING the clocks of the others.

In 2012 Obama lost significant vote share relative to his 2008 win, while Romney gained slightly from McCain. The shifts just weren't enough to swing the election to Romney.

One reason why those shifts weren't big enough was because Romney ran a traditional campaign. Lock down the base (he actually did ok there) then try to convince Moderates to vote for you.

Obama took a different approach. Knowing that Moderates had soured on him, his campaign used data-driven methods to increase turnout by Liberals who didn't have that great a record of previous voting. Which turned out to be much more effective and less costly as well.

PJ Media has pretty good article on this. But the key point is summarized on this slide:

It was the unanticipated presence of these new (but Liberal) voters that screwed up all the election night projections, which had Romney winning.

What this would seem to indicate is that the best solution for the Republican candidate is to follow the same pattern and identify and go after Conservatives that don't have a big history of voting. It may not work, but its probably the best option they've got.
