Already reported by like cal affiliates it was a burglary call.
One local source reports the officer may have responded to the wrong address.
There is significantly more information out there then the initial report.
ATLANTA —
DeKalb County police got a call on a suspicious person reported at a home. Three officers initially responded to the burglary call, CBS News affiliate WGCL reported. But police said no house number was given and officers went to a home that fit the description of the home they were called to investigate.
An officer went to the back of the home, where the back door and screen door were both unlocked. The officers identified themselves, but shots rang out between the homeowner and police. One officer was hit and so was the homeowner in the gunfire. A dog was killed.
The officer was taken to a hospital in critical condition, while the homeowner’s condition was unclear.
What I mean is it looks like the cop made a big mistake and hopefully lives to learn from it.
The officers identified themselves...
According to whom?
Seriously? You gotta be frickin' kidding me.
Even though the cops broke into the wrong house, at least they successfully took out the family pet. So it wasn’t a total loss.
Where was this—oh yes, Atlanta. No history of police incompetence there, right? It will all get covered up, don’t worry. Wrong house, still don’t know if resident was armed? Then who shot the cop? They went in because at 7:30 in the evening the back door was unlocked.

OK. Pick one and tell me what is exaggerated.
Go ahead. Try it.
Atlanta GA A Dekalb county officer was left in critical condition Monday evening after being shot in the leg while responding to a burglary call.
Around 7:35 pm, officers were responding to a vague location for a burglary in progress call, when police entered the wrong home. Shortly after gunshots erupted, the officer and the homeowner, identified as Chris McKinley by a neighbor, were both injured in the melee. McKinleys dog was also killed during the exchange.
A lot is yet to be determined here as to what and when shots were fired, how the officer received injuries, how the homeowner received injuries, Director of public safety Cedric Alexander said. But we did respond to the wrong residence tonight.
The Officers claim they went to the back of the home and found that the rear door and screen door were unlocked. While not locking your door may be a common occurrence for many Americans, these officers apparently viewed it as a sign of an intrusion.
That in and of itself would probably suggest to anyone that it is possible that there could be intruders inside, but it turned out not to be the case, Alexander said.
