Kentucky Republican candidate for governor Matt Bevin sparred with CNN host Don Lemon in a contentious interview on national television Tuesday night.
Bevin appeared on CNN to discuss the controversy surrounding Democratic Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis refusal to issue marriage licenses and her incarceration on contempt charges. The back-and-forth between Bevin and Lemon became labored at times.
During the interview Lemon played Bevin a clip from the TV show The West Wing, which has gone viral in response to the Davis controversy in recent weeks.
The clip features actor Martin Sheen playing fictional President Jed Bartlet quoting Bible verses on slavery, stoning and other punishments for disobeying ancient laws that are now commonplace practice such as wearing garments made of two-threads.
Lemon essentially asked Bevin if Davis, and Bevin himself, was selectively applying Bible verses to modern times.
Frankly, what youre asking me to do is make commentary on a television program, Bevin said. Im running for Governor.
I understand that but Mr. Bevin will you answer my question, Lemon said.
Bevin repeatedly refused to answer the question, instead telling Lemon he was selectively choosing. Which Lemon retorted, Thats what shes doing. That is a criticism of her.
Before the interaction over the West Wing, Lemon asked if Davis was being hypocritical to pass judgment based on religion as she has been married four times.
All of the things that youre quick to be snide about pre-date any of her religious convictions, Bevin said. I think she should be applauded.

My, my. Mr. Lemon is a real sourpuss.
He’s also delusional in trying to compare a leftist TV show to reality. But then, again, he’s a leftist Democrat himself so being delusional is the “normal” for that state of mental disorder.
I’d like to ask Lemon a question.
What do you think about the words of Capt. Kirk in “The Omega Glory” when he recited the “Declaration of Independence” and related it to what was going on in the show (i.e. a revolt against a ChiCom dominated world?
Do they apply to today’s world?
I’m glad that Bevin made Lemonade out of the CNN pretend host. Add in some sugar and you might be able to keep it down.
leftards have no right to even bring up religion or Christianity as these pukes hate any type of religion. The only religion they’re part of is the chruch of Hopeychangey led by satanic priest Buttcrack obama.
Lemon only wants the laws he supports enforced too. Exactly what he’s accusing Kim Davis of doing. But then that’s the left for ya. They never think anything through before they spout their nonsense.
To be fair to Mr. Lemon, many deluded and ignorant leftists like him thought “The West Wing” was real.
Glad to see another politician stand up to our media overlords.
Lemon should make the same Biblical “West Wing” complaints to Martin Sheen who allegedly revivified his faith.
Dershowitz ineptly evaded Bevin’s question regarding Dred Scott. He knew his position was untenable regarding his requirement to obey the Court in the current instance while not holding the same stance for Dred Scott. So he spun it away quickly.
Does Lemon want the SD sheriff held in contempt for not issuing public permits related to 2nd amendment rights?
As ordered by the court?
As found in the explicit language of the constitution and confirmed by the same court that issued the ruling related to this matter?
No, Don Lemmon - we Christians do not follow the Mosaic Law in this day and time.
We do, we are just not judged by it.
Wow... just, wow. I really do not miss having a television set in my home if this is what they put on it.
Dijon Lemmon should be putting his money into a high interest bearing account.
I have a “feeling” that he’s going to go (Animaniacs)...
down the hole
Bevin could have handled the idiot better when he started the line of interrogation regarding the Old Testament (something Leftists ALWAYS do). The Leftists love to premise religious arguments in support of sin upon false dichotomies (either this or that; nothing else); e.g. IF one is no longer stoned for adultery THEN adultery must be accepted as okay yadda yadda.
Bevin could have replied I am Christian, as in Jesus Christ, DUH! Then went on to quote: Mathew 5:17 - Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Then explained that although many earthly rituals and punishments were set aside, that sin remains sin and it remains wrong. Further, that a Christian is required not only to avoid sinful activity but as well witness the truth regarding such sinful activity and oppose the promotion of such sinful activity. As such a Christian can not sanction, approve, assist in, or celebrate the lie known as homosexual marriage -a Christian must oppose it...
