A lot of Americans died in Iraq thanks to Syria’s provision of aid and safe haven for both of ISIS’s components-

That is based on what? Bush was sending al-Qaeda to Syria to be "rendered" - Obama made Syria an enemy.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/feb/19/syria-us-ally-human-rights

From 2012:

In recent weeks, US officials have been falling over one another to denounce the brutality of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria. President Obama has accused it of committing "outrageous bloodshed" and called for Assad to stand down; Hillary Clinton has referred to the Syrian leader as a "tyrant"; Elliot Abrams, deputy national security adviser under George W Bush, has called Syria a "vicious enemy".

I can't help but wonder what Maher Arar must make of such comments. Arar, a telecommunications engineer born in Syria, moved to Canada as a teenager in 1987 and became a citizen in 1991.

On 26 September 2002, he was arrested at JFK airport in New York, where he had been in transit, on his way home to Canada after a family holiday abroad. Following 13 days of questioning, the US authorities, suspecting Arar of ties to al-Qaida based on flawed Canadian police intelligence, "rendered" him not to Canada, where he lived, but to his native Syria, from where his family had fled 15 years earlier.

-----------------------

Even though Syria was a dictatorship, that is all desolate desert there between Iraq and Syria and Jordan.

Also, the number one ethnic group that killed Americans in Iraq were Libyans. The returned jihadis there were the ones the USA helped overthrow Qaddafi, who also made a deal with Bush to get out of the anti-American terror business after Iraq.

Trump says Iraq was a mistake - I say it was almost not a mistake because long term it changed Syria and Libya into potential partners with the USA (Assad, Jr was seen as a reformer and was visited by congressional delegations). Qaddafi's son's were touted as the next generation of reformers who were educated at Oxford. Then Obama comes in and we have "Arab Springs" that bring jihadis to the forefront.

So let us not re-write history. Oceana has NOT repeat NOT always been at war with Eastasia.

Yep sounds like China is sending its special forces for joint ops with Russia
Should be fascinating
The Chinese have , I believe, up to 10,000 citizens working in Iraq and own a good chunk of those oilfields we liberated with US blood and felt too noble to claim
So it's not like they do not have skin in the game

WTF?

Putin is playing a dangerous game and despite the fact that a Godless, hardcore KGB SOB like himself is expanding the CCCP empire, the Muslims all around Russia would nuke him with an Iranian bomb in a second.
He's taking his chances and watching Obama suck his thumb in his crib...

Russian equipment will be used to kill Israelis and that is my red line...
On the other hand, Israeli pilots have shot Russian pilots out of the sky in the past...

That’s why they had to fight two wars in Chechnya?

The Russians are building their base in the Alawite heartland, Putin said Assad is ready to share power with “healthy opposition”. This article does not seem to be correct.

Russians sound like they’ll get their pitootys kicked as in Chechnya and Afghanistan again.

Good for Putin. I hope he, and the Assad forces manage to slaughter all of the “Arab Spring” supporters present in Syria, along with ISIS, Al Qaeda, etc.

Great how Rand Paul embarassed himself by running the same photo you are. Paul is such an idiot. Honestly, who started what?

That civil war was in progress before McCain went there.

Assad, friend to Iran and North Korea has killed almost 7 times more than ISIS has this year.

Is obama a pro Christian president? Is America today a pro Christian nation?

What is obama’s interpretation of US national interests as pertaining to Syria? If Assad falls tomorrow, name the man and political party supported by Syrians, that the US is backing to replace him? After all Syrians have elected Bashir Assad twice now in the 14 years he has been in power. Fwiw... Is he less legitimate and more brutal than the iranian Khameini and North Korea's Kim Jong Un with whom we negotiate?

Feel free to start a pro-US Syrian policy discussion and defend why and how our end game is realistic and worth American lives.

Why is Russia in Syria

http://www.syriahr.com/en/2015/09/why-is-russia-in-syria-now/

Much different portrayal than this article.

Assads helped bomb our marine barracks in Beirut, hell, I’m no traitor and calling him our friends, he doesn’t have an army to speak of. They’ve been decimated and have lost half the country.

You are making the mistake of assuming that Obama and US State Department are doing anything in the national interest of USA.

Assad’s daddy was cooperative in Gulf War I and Assad Jr. was cooperative in Gulf War II. For the value of “Middle East Dictator” he was relatively well behaved. So was Daffy. And Mubarak was a shining example of enlightenment by that standard. It would have been in our “national interest” to support these people.

And Assad vastly preferable to over ANY of the “Arab Spring” movements. Just ‘cause he didn’t let the Euroweenies build their LNG pipeline to the Med is no reason to support ISIS.

Fact is, nobody in the ME, except Israel, is capable of democratic or republican self government. There will be dictators or there will be theocracies, at least until they ditch tribalism and Islam.

Too bad the Christians or Druze don’t see Assad as a friend and have endorsed him.

Assad is ISIS’s Airforce.

“Syria Daily, June 2: Assad’s Bombs Aid Islamic State Offensive in Aleppo Province”

Assad has done nothing for Christians, that’s propaganda.

And when pictures of Russian soldiers being beheaded by ISIS show up on You Tube then what will the response of the populace be?

So you would prefer ISIS to control Syria rather than Assad. I think most would disagree.

No, Obama is not a pro-Christian president.

No, the USA is not a pro-Christian nation, not even in the Bible belt.

No one knows what Obama's interpretation of the US national interest is in Syria or anywhere else.

The US has no one to replace Assad due to Obama's dilly dallying.

I have a lot less faith in the democratic process that may have elected Assad than you do.

Just as I'm against Obama and Putin, I against Kim Jong Un, Khameini, and Assad.

You start whatever discussions you want. I don't take orders from you.

Gasp! Don’t you know that only Obama and his Obamanation are allowed to arm and train would-be terrorists for the advancement of their own objectives? sarc/

I do so agree with you. I’m a double irritant to some on here I guess. Putin’s nationalism doesn’t repel me as much as Obama’s hatred of America and Donald Trump’s blatant criticism of establishment GOP incites nothing but admiration in me.

So now the Chinese are getting involved I do think we’ll be hearing more about this in time. China will want to broadcast their military strength and accomplishment in stabilizing the Middle East.

Exactly what I noticed. Not saying we should commit troops, but we go to the UN. We tepidly use the CIA to mask what we are doing in Syria, and Russia just flat-out just goes in with troops to support its ally, Assad.

We pussyfoot around, sell out Israel, love up Iran. Anyone else see the difference? Anyone?

Are we headed to a world war?
