What jobs there are are moving to population centers? That is what I think I see. Rural America is drying up.

I also see a gap in skilled and dependable young labor. I would not want to be trying to staff a business these days.

There will be no brain power labor shortage. The boomers are finding they can’t afford to retire or are being scared to death about mortality risk, outliving their savings. The financial world wants this, it means more money under “management”.

Boomers are flexible, dependable, skilled and only want / need to work part time since they have given up on saving more. Instead of saving more they defer, defer, defer their full retirement as long as they can. This is the compromise they are willing to make and the only one they really can make since they are tired. They have pushed hard for decades for a prize they didn’t achieve and burned themselves out.

"This reflects what I’m seeing in my own industry. The labor market is definitely getting tighter, but it’s really in a very narrow band of my profession. It’s like we’ve thinned the herd of workers in the 40-60 age group and we can’t find enough competent 25-30 year-olds to replace them."

We have several younger relatives from the midwest to the west coast as execs in hiring positions in a cross section of industries, and they are having the same problems/issues. Their problems with the so called younger hires is a failure of work ethics, and a know it all attitude from day one of their hire to their exit interviews.

For Tara Sinclair, chief economist for job site Indeed, employers have so many openings because they need more workers — but are hoping that candidates haven't caught on~~snip~~Put simply, if employers sweetened the pot, they'd have the workers they need, not an all-time high level of unfilled jobs.

These college schooled economist types are so much fun to listen to...they've been 'taught' a model for business activity, but don't...can't...judge if it applies.

For low skill positions, it's simply a matter of pay. For jobs up the food chain, qualifications and personal attributes come into play.

I'm an employer, and the people I interview, and the people my friends interview...well, to be blunt, it would be an odd world if we had full employment. Too many people I talk to aren't employable; you cannot turn their time into value. For many I deal with from other businesses? God bless them, someone found a way to employ them and make it work.

Many companies post job openings to see who they get.

You also have to post jobs to "prove" a suitably skilled American worker can't be found before you can hire an H1B.

Also, my niece attended a small college in Iowa last year. The freshmen were told what they were learning would be obsolete in 4 years and they would have 11 different jobs in their lifetime. So, as for those graduating college, besides being undereducated, any education is obsolete. Why hire anyone?

Why take a job when you can make more on the government taxpayer gravy train

There, fixed that.

I always say what it is because the fed gov has very little real money of it's own. These subsidies are paid by money extracted in one way or another from individual and business taxpayers.

The fed gov does have plenty of phony cyber money. We joke about the FED printing press but it's not even that. Those Bernake/Yellen Bucks are nothing more than digital line item entries in the fed gov' s equally phony financial cyber ledger.
