a reporter asked Francis about Havana’s record on human rights and religious freedom, prompting only a tepid response of, essentially, “other countries are just as bad.”

Typical response, get it all the time in the RF.

Not addressing the issue releases balloons, unicorns, and rainbows and all is ok.

If other countries are just as bad oh so what.

With all due respect to Catholics, this Pope was not ready for prime time.

Some things you can’t do in totalitarian nations. Some things you can. He should have uttered some words of encouragement to the faithful.

This guy doesn’t seem to get much of anything clearly right. Of course I’m only hearing what is being reported for sensational value too.

Let’s face it. The media is no friend of any Christians.

The world is on fire and this pope seems to be toying with the flames. He makes my heart sad.

I’m going to see what the Pope does here in the U.S. and how the media attempts to spin it before I become just another voice against him. I am a Catholic who has not been happy with things that have come out that he has supposedly said, but I’ve also seen translations I almost believe have been purposefully misquoted by western media etc I was in on an interesting conversation today and it was said that the Pope wanted to meet with anti-Castro dissidents and was told no. He could have chose to not go to Cuba but where the island was stamped as “an atheist nation” by the Communists, with small steps made by the Catholic Church people can now practice their religion more freely and new churches are being built. They were talking on Fox about how JP II had written about the horrible affects of Communism in Cuba and that the present Pope had written a paper in agreement saying Capitalism was the only way to raise people out of poverty. We never hear that. I’ve heard people complain he’s going to mostly speak in Spanish— it is his native tongue and he isn’t as comfortable with his English. O’Reilly is saying the Pope has expressed concerns that those who are invited to the WH (gay, transgender etc) are going to be used as a photo op by sticking them in a picture with the Pope and implying he supports their beliefs which is not true. On climate change, he has used the word IF climate change exists, but even if he believes it, it us not church doctrine and he can have his opinion politically that I don’t agree with. If he doesn’t speak about the sanctity of life, I will be beyond disappointed. The left is really pushing him, I hope he pushes back and conservatives don’t just drop out and let the libs take over my church. Yes I know some of you will say they already have, but not with those in my circles.

I will also say my MIL often has the Catholic channel on and he has spoken out against ISIS, the persecution and murder of Christians in the ME and Africa and against abortion. I don’t see American media covering any of this. The Pope does not have a standing army to send to Syria. It is Obama who is taking down Western Civilization and will be more than happy to drag the Pope with him. The Pope lives with a fatwah handed down that he should be killed everyday. Christians of all stripes should not be letting others divide us. The enemy of Christians and Jews are loving the divide. Also the video from a distance of Francis talking to Castro— I have never seen the Pope look so angry and stern Francis wasn’t buying what Castro was selling and was telling him about it when I watched.

This Pope is actually very, and ironically (epicly so) ... Capitalistic ... in how he’s running the Church.

He’s looking to rejuvenate the Church by filling pews. Cuba represents a massive untapped vein of faith, and he doesn’t want to end up back in an adversarial relationship with a dictatorial government that’s only recently started loosening prohibitions on the practice of his Faith. Tick off the Castros and the Church might find itself shut out for another couple decades. So he’s going to play nice with them.

Then he comes to the US and shifts his message. He’s betting that appeals on issues that matter to Liberals will get them back into the pews without costing him much in the way of Conservatives who leave. Probably also considering that the Conservatives will largely die out over the next 20-30 years while the upcoming Millennials who will provide the bulk of future Churchgoers will be much more Liberal in their outlook.

This is all business management 101.
