Don’t condition or link Cruz success or failure to Trump. Cruz has simply not caught on. He may be interesting to a small group of engaged people but for most people he is simply not compelling. He failed test to be transparent (amnesty), has made some bad decisions (supporting Obama on trade and Iran), and 500% increase in H1B. Trump didn’t make him do these.
Remember the meeting Cruz and Trump had in NYC about 6 weeks ago? They have both resisted tearing into each other since then and I suspect some sort of pact was made.
Cruz is steadily building state organizations while Trump’s short term popularity is killing donations to the other candidates which will pick them off (see Walker this week). Eventually the field will be thinned and when Trump implodes Cruz wild have the structure in place for success. Remember his fundraising to-date is better than Bush’s.
You have a point there. Cruz’s primary support comes from intellectual conservatives and some religious conservatives.
He needs to branch out to the “Reagan Democrats” that Trump has been hooking onto.
Otherwise his support will not get beyond single digits.
H1B’s are a terrible blow to US citizens with degrees in Computer sciences.
