Russian Ambassador Says Poland Was Partly to Blame for World War II
New York Times ^ | SEPTEMBER 26, 2015

The Russian ambassador to Poland has prompted outrage here for putting some of the blame for World War II on Poland, creating a new spat amid deepening tensions between the nations.

Ambassador Sergey Andreev of Russia on Friday described the Soviet Union’s 1939 invasion of Poland as an act of self-defense, not aggression. Poland’s Foreign Ministry responded on Saturday, saying the ambassador “undermines historical truth” and seemed to be trying to justify the crimes of Stalin, then the Soviet leader.

World War II began after Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union sealed a pact in 1939 that included a secret provision to carve up Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe. Germany soon invaded Poland from the West, followed by a Soviet invasion from the east 16 days later. Millions of Poles were killed in the war.

Those devious Poles forced innocent USSR and Germany into needing the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact!

Pat Buchanan has basically made a similar argument before.

Poland was wearing high heels and a tight skirt.

Indeed. Poland should have handed Danzig and the Polish Corridor to Hitler and everything east of the Curzon Line to Stalin. Those two would certainly have been satisfied, wouldn’t they?

Those dam Polacks...valiantly refusing to just lay down and let the Soviets and the Germans have their way. Clearly their fault, especially that trouble at Katyn.

Theres nothing to figure out.

Libs don’t know history, so the only important thing is that Poland won’t let in Muslim invaders.

Therefore, Poles are bad people and MUST have been at fault.

From the article: “World War II began after Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union sealed a pact in 1939 that included a secret provision to carve up Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe.”

That’s an outright lie. Germany did not attack Poland until after they invaded France and other countries. Only when the Luftwaffe could not beat the RAF did Hitler turn to Poland. The war was well under way long before Russia got into it.

Is there anyone with a functioning brain who really believes Poland was a threat to Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany? Really? That’s pretty high on the dumb lie scale. Only a far left liberal could even consider . . . never mind. Pretty smart lie. Today’s left will buy it.

Poland grabbed a bit of Czechoslovakia after Germany invaded in 1938. Churchill called them “jackals”.

Their military weakness does not make them saints.

Check that, Churchill called Poland the “Greedy Hyena of Europe” after they piggy backed on the Nazi takeover of Sudetenland in 1938.

Did you learn your history in publik skule? France and Britain did not even declare war on Germany until they invaded Poland - that is when the war started.

Ugh, you are the only one I've ever heard of that said that. These are the generally accepted dates:

Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact: August 23, 1939 (When "Russia got into it.")
German Invasion of Poland: September 1, 1939 (The official start of World War II; The Russians invaded Poland on September 17, 1939)
The Phoney War: October 1939 - April 1940 (Britain and France had declared war on Germany, but took no action; Poland was conquered and had a resistance army in France; no countries took ny military action against Germany)
The invasion of France: May 10, 1940 (France effectively surrendered by June 25, 1940)
The Blitz: September 7, 1940 - May 21, 1941 (Germany bombed Britain)
German invasion of Russia: June 22, 1941 (Germany invaded their ally, the USSR, which had invaded Poland with them in September, 1939)
