COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The widow of the Forest Acres Police Department officer who was killed in the line of duty just before the massive floods washed away large parts of the Forest Acres community was out and about on Tuesday, volunteering for the Harvest Hope Food Bank. Additional Links GoFundMe page set up for Forest Acres police officer Greg Alia's family raises $100K

Kassy Alia, whose husband Greg Alia was fatally wounded in Richland Mall, said she wasn't out for attention, but wanted to spread the word about helping others during a time of crisis.

"Over the past few days, the community has enveloped my family with love," Alia said. "Once I realized my family was safe, my son and I were safe -- my sister and her boyfriend have been staying with us -- I felt driven to come out and give back to the community that had given us so much."

Alia said Harvest Hope is good on water, but it still needs canned meats, canned fruits and vegetable, along with supplies for babies. She said she's also so grateful for all the first responders who are working so hard throughout all of this.

South Carolina continues to come out of what's being called the worst flooding in recorded state history.

I am not going to give the perp any additional publicity on the thread, but just in case you are wondering, the daddy-daddy lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Ms. Alia is a remarkable woman.

The pain and anguish that she and her son have will not go away anytime soon, if at all. And yet they find the strength and compassion to put aside their own grief in order to help others in need.

RIP, Mr. Alia. May God welcome you home with open arms and the peace and comfort be with your wife and your son through the Lord Jesus Christ.
