Gun violence researchers becoming an endangered species?
Associated Press via QCOnline ^ | October 11, 2015 | AP staff

...As state and federal officials debate gun laws or violence prevention programs, it's often not clear how well they'll work. To answer such questions, researchers ideally would like to know the exact number, type, and distribution of guns, as well as who owns them and where people got them. They'd like to know how and where they're stored, and to track use of gun safety courses...

Hey, let’s ignore the fact that “gun deaths” have gone from around 7 per 100,000 in 1993 to about 3.6 per 100,000 currently and private firearms have gone from approx 195 million to 300+ million in the same time frame. You mean those kind of facts? #factsdontmatter.

the exact number: Not nearly enough or an arsenal, depending on your definition.

type: Mass casualty fully automatic assault nerf guns, pea shooters, and a funnelator.

distribution: Where you least expect it, expect it!

who owns them: Not me. Mine were lost in a tragic ________ accident.

where people got them: I gots mine from a dude at the State Fair at his “Gun Show Loophole” booth.

how and where they’re stored: Buried under the compost pile behind the chicken pen. Sorry about the mess, BATFU.

track use of gun safety courses: I came, I napped, I got the card.

I hate propaganda by the left and the gun control crowd. This story contains many false statements to make people think that there is a conspiracy to prevent firearms research. That is an utter lie.

Specifically, the CDC has many many studies they have published and sponsored of gun laws, firearm deaths, etc.
WHAT THE CDC does not have and is not allowed by law to do is to propose and advocate gun control! Oops, so this is not about gun violence research it is about the CDC sponsoring studies to advocate gun control? YES.

First let's look at the exact language that has people so upset and that they claim limits the CDC.

..... the 1996 Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Bill (PDF, 2.4MB) for Fiscal Year 1997 that “none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.” OH MY THIS IS JUST A “BAN” on “advocacy or promoting gun control!” That is what the left is so upset about! They need government federal dollar sponsored gun control advocacy!

Now lets look at the other part of the incredible lie that is the heart of this story. Obama in 2003 commissioned the CDC to pull together a blue ribbon panel that would examine gun violence and gun laws to see what was effective.

And the conclusion was of this blue ribbon panel? Gun laws cannot be conclusively shown to reduce gun violence! OH MY! NO Wonder folks want the CDC to get with the gun control program and do advocacy as research is coming up with the wrong answers!

You bet they would. That's why it's none of their damn business.

Because they couldn't research the effects of smoking until they knew the exact number, type and distribution of cigarettes, as well as who smoked them and where people got them.

Not exact but they intimate scrutiny to protect you and of course...

I was talking to a CDC employee Saturday. Apparently it is a Leftist stronghold, and conservative views must be kept hidden or it will adversely affect advancement.

Given this, why do we have a professional civil service? Why not just go back to the old ways, where there was massive firing and hiring with every new Administration?

you should have seen the whining in the paper this morning about this issue, and you should have seen how biased the AP article was- it stared off something like

‘In the face of the recent bloodbath that is being witnessed in America these days’

“Bloodbath”? Mass shooting deaths amount to just .02% of all gun deaths POINT ZERO TWO PERCENT!

While mass shootings are horrible, they are NOT on the rise contrary to the constitution hating left

[[Further, contrary to what the zeitgeist may suggest, mass shootings are not on the rise. Prominent criminologist James Alan Fox has found “no upward trend in mass killings” since the ’70s. Take campus statistics as an example: “Overall in this country, there is an average of 10 to 20 murders across campuses in any given year,” Fox told CNN (and roughly 99 percent of these reported homicides were not mass shootings). “Compare that to over 1,000 suicides and about 1,500 deaths from binge drinking and drug overdoses.” Mass shootings on college campuses lag far, far behind many much more prevalent social and mental health problems.]]

from Jan 1 to Oct 12- there have been 45 ‘mass shootings’- Sounds like a lot, but let’s take a look at deaths by other means and see that the left completely ignores those deaths in their faux ‘gun violence’ outrage, and that mass shootings are no greater today than they were years ago- (see post and link above for those stats)

64 people have died from lightening strikes

466 people died falling out of bed

608 Smoking in Bed

2161 people died from malnutrition

4668 Died texting while driving

77162 deaths from hospital infections

851123 murders by abortion

Completely bogus article. Michael Bloomberg has donate 250 million dollars to fund anti-second amendment research at Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health. From crimeresearch.org:

On January 8th, 2013, the Obama Administration met with 23 large foundations to organize a push for national gun control. They included such organizations as the Open Society Institute, the McCormick Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the California Endowment. As one participant said: “There’s only one reason why you get a bunch of deep-pocketed funders on the phone.” In 2012, Mayor Michael Bloomberg donated $250 million to Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health to hire new professors, many whose primary objective is to do expanding research on gun violence. President Obama has also been directing federal government funds towards gun control projects. Still other funds are being set up, such as the Fund for a Safer Future, which has $16 million to fund gun control research and is one of the many gun control projects being partially funded George Soros’ Open Society Foundation. Recently, the MacArthur foundation has also been given a large million dollar grant. The public health research being funded is very flawed (e.g., see the discussion here on Kellermann).
