Young Democrats loving Bernie, hating Hillary on debate night

Yes, the Terps for Bernie love Bernie. But just as important in this race, many just don't like Hillary. What young and idealistic college student would? Sanders inspires their passion about inequality, about climate change, money in politics, gay rights. Clinton doesn't.

"She's the epitome of the establishment and the corrupt politicians, and there are so many things to dislike about her," said J.T. Stanley, a senior who is one of the co-founders of Terps for Bernie. "My number-one issue is money in politics, because we can't do anything about global warming until we get the money out of the system. That's my single issue, and that's why I despise Hillary. She's the devil."

Sanders is Marx.

Hillary is Lenin. A corrupt drunken lesbian Lenin, but still Lenin.

The kids on Reddit were piling on her this morning. Basically said she is more of an old robot than a real person.

Only this could be the 2015 version of George McGovern. Hillary’s overdue for a meltdown.

Like Muskie's meltdown weeping in New Hampshire? That's an interesting parallel. I was thinking of Bernie as an updated Jimmy Carter: out of nowhere, surprise outsider candidate, anti-politician. But he is closest to McGovern philosophically.

I am right in the middle of reading James MacGregor Burns Volume One on FDR. I would say, based on what I am reading, that Sanders blows past FDR in all categories.

Burns’ book has been pretty good in the things I did not know about FDR. Actually FDR was a practicing Capitalist back in the 1920’s when he was in private law practice and a VP for an Insurance Company. He loved to take risks in interesting stocks and companies. Overall he did okay.

I have to keep in mind also that FDR was very much a product of the early 20th century progressive politics which really has no comparison to today’s politics.

Yes FDR was a Liberal Progressive but so far my reading doesn’t put him where Sanders is, I am early on the book and right now I am where he becomes President so I have a lot of ground left to cover.

We teach nothing about the Soviet Union. None of these kids have any idea about what went on there.

When I was 16 I went to Leningrad and Moscow and saw the living standards of my teen counterparts. It was eye-opening, and at 16 I knew right then and there that communism was evil, enslaved citizens, and was completely destructive.

It is my belief that the lack of education provided about the poor living standards, murder, slavery, and eventual collapse of the USSR is completely intentional.

Alrighty then.

The media is full bore on for Shillary this morning. I can’t even get the news for hearing “Hillary Hillary she’s so grand, if she can’t win nobody will!!!” I refuse to hear it. Old movie day for this old gal.

My daughter is at university and says it's not at all trendy to like Hillary. They are all behind Sanders and it's because of the idea of free tuition.

Look at FDR’s rhetoric in response to the Great Depression. He rode that wave into the White House. (By the way, Sanders likes to tweet both FDR and TR.)

“For me, the line of the night actually came from Hillary:
“I know we can afford to, because we’ll make the rich pay for it!”

She does know she is rich, right? And if she actually believes that, she is not nearly as smart as we are lead to believe. And she knows her spawn’s family is very rich, right? I hate Hillary almost as much as Obama.

Speaking of corruption, yesterday I was driving east on I-70 and about 25 miles west of Baltimore I saw what looked like a campaign poster billboard, but it read "Hillary for Prison."

Even in Maryland.

(I don't live in Maryland--I was on the way to BWI.)

I was driving around in a part of town last evening that is frequented by Millenials. I could not keep count of all the Bernie bumper stickers.

Just sayin’

You are absolutely correct. Since the Berlin Wall fell we have an entire generation of voters out there who remember NOTHING of the Cold War or why Communism was a bad idea we resisted so fiercely.

Have to disagree. A Clinton 2008 Presidency would have been bad. It wouldn’t be as bad as Obama. Same holds true for Sanders.

Clinton wants power for power’s sake - so she can do whatever she wants. She may want to accrue more and more power but that’s where it ends for her. She may gather that power and yes, she’ll wind up causing us pain and hardship but it will be less direct.

Sanders wants power to try and change you and me. He doesn’t just want to “address” climate change - he wants to force you to BELIEVE it. His main goal is to change you and me and given power, he will never stop finding ways to do so.

Not to say Clinton wouldn’t be bad. She’d be horrible. Sanders - a true believer with power - would just be a worse horror.
