Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump expressed agreement with changing the legal immigration system away from a family-based system and towards a merit-based system on Saturdays Larry Kudlow Show.
Trump, after discussing his ideas on illegal immigration, was asked, In your view, can we fix the system in many ways, one way would be, instead of having a family-based system, why cant we do it on the basis of education, of their potential contributions to America, you know, have a different criteria, completely?
He responded, Oh, I agree. Look, Im all for that, sure, sure. Well, how about, when they go to Harvard, and theyre number one in their class and they get thrown out of the country. They cant stay. How about that? No, I dont want them to go, I want them to stay. I want those people to stay. We need them for Silicon Valley. We need them all over, Larry.

Chain migration needs to go the way of the Dodo.
Oh no! The Cruz-critics might have to refrain from the chorus of H1B Visas!
Yet another +1 for Trump. He’s getting good advice.
Trump knows what he is doing....people just aren’t used to a non politician lying to them to get votes and having the super powers with all the money in the world support them...
This is all new to people....this is a movement of the WE the PEOPLE WILL DECIDE THIS ELECTION and it has a lot of people going INSANE!!!
Good. This MUST be done.
Good for Trump for sayng so. Of course it must be changed. Allowing chain migration is mathematically identical to no immigration control at all; everyone on Earth qualifies for migration if immigrants’ relatives are allowed in.
Immigrant in.
Their relatives in.
THEIR relatives in.

Obviously I can’t vote in your elections. If I could I would vote for Donald Trump.
I think a Trump/Cruz combination would be good.
I like Rick Santorum myself as well, but his poll numbers don’t look promising.
I don't NEED any of them.
In modern times, family reunification is an idiotic excuse when anywhere in the world is an airline flight away or, in the case of the south of the border types, a bus ride away.
husband and wife and juvenile kids only when allowing a family to immigrate. if other family members want to immigrate they have to apply as a separate entity and immigrate on there own merit.
It’s not enough to roll back illegal immigration.
Legal immigration has got to be reduced as well.
“Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump expressed agreement with changing the legal immigration system away from a family-based system and towards a merit-based system”
Hurrah.
“Its not enough to roll back illegal immigration. Legal immigration has got to be reduced as well.”
Exactly, MudDog.
You seem to be assuming - falsely - that all Cruz critics are Trump boosters.
And why would even Trump boosters have to refrain from criticizing Cruz on H-1Bs? Trump has published a specific plan for restricting H-1Bs which is entirely consistent with his statements to Kudlow.
“Family basing works when you have families of workers and achievers. It doesn’t work when you have families of leeches and loafers.”
It might be ok with some of the Asian cultures, but not the Hispanic one. They are the lowest performing ‘minority’ in any school they invade.
When we were moving and needed to see what parts of cities to move to with my son, I did a lot of research on schools’ performance. High free lunches correlated to low test scores-except with one group: Asians. I don’t know what nationality, since that wasn’t part of the data.
This is the smartest agenda yet, which Trump has proposed. I know personally how family based immigration system is costing our country huge amounts of money. So many common sense, nationalistic proposals coming from Trump!
I am liking this guy more every day!
