Illinois Republican Sen. Mark Kirk teamed up with the vast majority of Senate Democrats to block a bill Tuesday that would crack down on sanctuary cities. He was the only Republican to vote against the measure.
The bill would increase penalties for illegal immigrants who return to the U.S. after theyre deported, and would threaten to withhold funds from cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement agents.
All but two Democrats and Kirk blocked a vote on the bill Tuesday, which fell six votes short of the 60 it needed to proceed to the floor. Democratic senators Joe Donnelly, representing Indiana, and Joe Manchin, representing West Virginia, voted with Republicans in support of the bill.
The Center for Immigration Studies, a nonprofit research group opposed to increased immigration, identified Champagne County in central Illinois, Cook County near Chicago and the city of Chicago as sanctuary cities in a new interactive map published in October.
The number of these U.S. cities, counties and states that refuse to prosecute illegal immigrants or cooperate with federal enforcement is increasing, along with the number of criminal releases, the Center for Immigration Studies recently reported. Roughly 340 jurisdictions are hindering immigration enforcement, and together these sanctuaries are releasing about 1,000 criminal aliens per month.
Kirk did not issue a statement explaining his vote, and his office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. On the eve of the sanctuary cities vote, Kirk also promoted a gun control bill he is co-sponsoring with four Democrats.
Illinois families shouldnt have to live in fear of illegal guns in the hands of criminals, he tweeted.
South Carolina Republican Senator and presidential candidate Lindsey Graham was noticeably absent from the vote, but a spokesman told The Daily Caller News Foundation he would have supported the motion to proceed had he been in Washington.
It was abundantly clear Senate Democrats were not going to allow this important issue to move forward, he told TheDCNF, pointing out one vote wouldnt have changed the outcome regardless.
Why did we not go nuclear option like the communists did on crazy assed judges? For GAWD sakes Fight!! I hate rino’s !!
Example #5143 for why Your Vote Really Matters.
Is there a Libertarian or 3rd party candidate running next year that can take this clown out? I’d rather have the Dim win this seat than Kirk. Total, utter disgrace.
What Freepers in the other 49 States need to understand is that since 2000 the State of Illinois had probably taken in more illegals than any State other than California.
I’ve heard estimates from some govt. officials that perhaps 500,000 illegal hispanics are living in the stretch from Chicago down to Joliet.
This is why Illinois will never go GOP again. That State is gone. Kirk believes it to be political suicide to go against them.
This guy is an extreme liberal, just about as bad as Pelosi.
It's those candy-asses from rock-solid red states, say South Carolina, for instance, that really and truly piss me off when they vote like Dims.
The party labels mean nothing. He’s just another uniparty puke. Probably more left than most.
But we gotta vote! Because if we don’t, the liberals win!
Oh. Nevermind.
James Marter, a conservative Republican, is running for Kirk’s seat.. I downloaded his petition to help him get signatures to get on the ballot.

Illegals can’t vote legally.

I’ll go farther and say that I’ll open the best bottle of wine I have and pass it around my neighborhood if and when I read that Mitch McConnell has passed away! He is the biggest POS the GoPee has ever given us!
“GoPee has ever given us!” Di I have your position to use GoPee? I post a lot. This is your vette5387!! I will bang these karl Rove bastards with”Gopee”!!
When I see “vette” in yourname, I see the finest hour in America. The old Corvette. I never had one because I had no money in 63 or 87 . God Bless the Corvette of old. I would never buy one from Government Motors— Ever!!
Ok .
I voted for the Libertarian the last time Kirk ran.

Well, I have both years in my screen name, plus a C5. The ‘63 is a split-window coupe (Silver Blue, 340 Hp.) that I purchased from the original owner in 1964 when it was just 11 months old. It’s the only thing I own that I’ve had longer than my lovely wife! She showed up 4 years later, and she’s still here!
Our RINO from Illinois!
SOOO FINE
Don’t kid yourself. In States without photo ID, I think illegals vote all the time.
And since a lot of this mass immigration has been going a good 25+ years now, we’ve got a whole group of “anchor babies” turning 18 who can vote.
Dan Bronson, a conservative, is running against Sen. Kirk. I got some signatures for Dan. His site is http://www.democracy.com/BronsonForSenate
Why did Kirk win his 2010 primary? During that election, all Illinois Republicans should have known that he was pro-choice, anti-gun rights, and pro-spending increases.
In the 2010 general election, I also voted for the libertarian candidate, Mike Labno. He’s pro-life, and he wants deport more illegal aliens.
