Is Ted Cruz The Most Likely GOP Nominee In 2016?
The Federalist ^ | October 27, 2015 | The Federalist Staff

Ted Cruz appears to be the best positioned Republican candidate running for president in 2016, Federalist publisher Ben Domenech said on MSNBC on Saturday.

“[Cruz] appeals to the base in a very strong way,” he said. “He has the second most small-dollar donations and he also appeals to the party elites.”

Cruz’s cross appeal among both grassroots conservatives and the GOP establishment is reflected in his campaign donations, he said.

Watch the video.

“He has the second most money overall and he’s very intentional about the way he’s approached this campaign,” Domenech, said.

Cruz raised $12.2 million in the last quarter, second only to Ben Cason who raised $20.8 million, and he has more total cash on hand ($13.8 million) than any other Republican presidential candidate.

Since Cruz has been able to lock up both small-dollar sources of funding from the grassroots of the conservative party and a rank-in-file donors from the base, he appears the best suited to secure the nomination, according to National Review.

Last week, Jeb Bush’s brother, former President George W. Bush, unloaded on Cruz, calling him opportunistic.

Cruz responded in interview with Bloomberg Politics that Bush’s comments “shouldn’t surprise anyone” and that he is attacking candidates whom he sees as a “real threat” to his brother’s campaign.

“I think in this case it bothers George W. Bush who looks at this scenario, who looks at this party, and sees it being tugged far more in the direction of what Ted Cruz thinks it ought to be than the way he thought it ought to be,” Domenech said.

If Cruz does not get the nod I may vote for Trump. I will not vote for any other GOPe candidate and that includes Carson.

He’s got my vote! Trump’s good too, but given the choice, Cruz is on top for me.

Cruz has about three months to turn these numbers around. Otherwise
he'll be one of 14 or so that didn't make the cut.

They must be kidding. The GOPe and the RINOs hate Ted Cruz.

They view him as a threat to the Uniparty gravy train.

I’m all in for Ted. I think what may shake out is a Trump/Cruz ticket. Ted is still a little green and may need Trump to bulldoze the path.

Probably a shorter timeline than that. Once someone wins some primaries-—Trump or Carson-—the whole dynamic changes. Lower tier supporters start to scramble to effect the outcome, no longer just advance their guy.

Does the GOPe fear Trump more than they loathe Ted?

That is the $64 question.

Some of those polls are WAY off. The CBS/NYT poll shows Cruz/Huckabee/Paul/Kasich all tied at 4%. That’s some serious dope they are smoking.

Say what? Time for you to look at Ted’s resume. Look what he has been doing while Trump is the neophyte to politics. We need a saber, not a club.

So you think Carson is that much different than any dimocrap? There are glaring similarities. The days of holding my nose are over. Instead of lessening my expectations like I/we have the last few elections it is time to expect a nominee to be a practicing conservative. I have reservations about Trump, but not as many as I do with Carson. He reminds me of Colin Powell. I am tired of settling and not liking the kool-aid.

These purists crack me up. Hand over the keys to a rotten, nation-destroying socialist rather than vote for a less than perfect candidate. It kind of reminds me of men that love a woman so much that they would rather kill her than lose her to another man.
