Having spent an entire adult lifetime immersed in PhDs, I can say without equivocation that the less the doctorate is worth the more the bearer insists on the title being used.

Like Germany before the war, you had more “doctors” running around than you could shake a stick at.
Although I’ve spent a lot of time at three different universities, I don’t think I’ve called anyone “doctor” except the guy checking me over at my physical.

I agree. As one with a PhD in a real science, I would never expect or want to be referred to as “Doctor”.
