Putin and Netanyahu to strike deal on Leviathan gas field

The Australian

October 20, 2015 12:00AM

Russia wants to be the major partner in Israel’s offshore Leviathan natural gas field in the eastern Mediterranean, a top Israeli foreign affairs analyst said in Sydney yesterday.

Ehud Yaari, the senior Middle East commentator for Israel’s Channel Two news, said “everybody regrets” a deal was not done with Woodside and that until now Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ruled out a Gazprom deal.

Gazprom bid for a stake in the project in 2012 but was beaten by Woodside, which pulled out of the joint venture in May last year. Mr Yaari said with the Russians now in Syria, Mr Netanyahu was likely to reconsider.

He said Mr Putin had told Mr Netanyahu: “We will make sure there will be no provocation against the gas fields by Hezbollah or Hamas. Nobody messes with us.”

Is this the possible Biblical ‘hook in the jaw’ that gets Russia involved in Armageddon?

sounds like things are getting closer and closer to the covenant of death between Israel and antichrist that will be the start of the 70th week of Daniel

Netanyahu also probably likes the idea that through Russia, Iran is kept at bay. Clearly, the Iranians don’t respect the USA but respect the Russians.

The first thing you need to know is that company mentioned in the article, Woodside, is an Australian company.

But the underlying conflict is between Noble Energy of Houston who has done all the development and has been seeking to sell this gas to recoup their investment. But there are those in Israel who want this gas only for Israel.

As for Obama and the US, we don't have a national oil company like Russia owns Gazprom. Obama and the US can't tell these private oil companies what to do.

If you haven't kept up with this ongoing saga between Nobel and Israel over the last 2-3 years, this event probably doesn't mean much.

Here's another current article with more/better info than the one above.

I have kept up some with the developments, thanks very much.
It appears that Jerusalem definitely wants the resource developed, albeit there’ve been too many squabbles yes...
I wondered when it was discovered whether Russia would ever try to take an interest in it....it now appears this is the case. Basically, it is a resource. A resource in demand in Europe, among other places. Russia has been very strategically increasing its control or influence on Europe via energy supplies. If Gazprom gets officially involved now, Russia will have some direct influence on just how (or at what prices) these energy supplies ever make their way to the European market. This would be very strategic for Russia’s other energy/gas interests as well (actually the probable primary concern from Moscow in this matter, I venture).
This is not how I wanted to see things work out, and I doubt it is how Bibi wanted them, either. But, Bibi definitely wants the resource developed and without further delays. Gazprom making a proposal right now might turn out to be an exceptionally astute move for them.
Beyond these strategy-level considerations, I have no inside information. Russia is almost certainly still far more interested in controlling the distribution (and eventaully probably the actual sources) of the Gulf energy products. I think that’s their primary move now, already blocking the Saudi-Omani terrorist gangs that were put into motion to clear a path thru Syria for Arabian fields energy pipeline(s) to Europe. Now that that’s taken care of, Russia will, I think, make further moves to exert more control over the gulf energy ...
but yes, Putin will like to have a say in the dev and/or distrib of the Israeli gas, too.... and he is perfectly capable of working two or three deals at once, to be sure.

Maybe Noble can get in, yet. (But i still think Russia will try to have some say in how that gas is marketed, even if Noble succeeds... we will see...)

Russia, Israel and the new Egypt that overthrew O’bammers Muzzie brothers - all on the same side.... Arab countries furious - bet your aaaaas o’b is too.

and the UN ruled that o’bummer has no legal right to be in Syria -

How long before people wake up as to who our REAL enemy is?

(So do we fight to win back our country while also learning Russian, just in case? (only half tongue in cheek)

"If Gazprom gets officially involved now......"

Now? This article that Trumponator posted is old news from Oct 19. Scroll back up and look at the date that Trumpinator used.

You can read into it what you want, but there is only one 2 week old source to the story, that you can't actually read. Evidently, the rest of the world hasn't heard about it?

I'm sure the Australian company Woodside had a good reason to bail out.

The world will soon be flooded with nat gas from Iran, the US starts exporting nat gas next year. The Egyptian nat gas field will be developed quickly. Israel has been sitting on this for 5 years, complaining about price.

i agree that Jerusalem (Israeli government) has some serious problems. It may be ‘overly-democratic’ as it debates and debates and debates and discusses and argues... about a number of things it should simply decide. Including, alas, national and security/defense issues of importance.

On the other hand, USA government has degenetated into a dictatorship, effectively anyway as Congress and the Supreme Court continue to enable, rather than stop, the seizure of despotic power by O. Checks and balances have been replaced by checks ($$ bribes and hush money) and balances (for weighing the gold and silver paid to purchase the corrupt Congresscritters).
So yes, we still have checks and balances, just redefined is all Redefined as Orwell warned us about...

anyway, yes, Israel’s government is often far less decisive than it needs to be for even the simple defense of its citizens

So Netanyahu is looking for Russia to protect future Israeli gas fields/infrastructure from future Muslim terrorism. Now I know why he has been visiting Putin and trying to be pals with him even though Russia is arming Iran and helping them by building five new nuclear reactors. Plus helping them develop nuclear weapons.

Will the Middle East be under a Pax Russ? America bugging out by idiot child-traitor Obama sure helps Russia along this path. Putin knows how to do a lot with a little while his economy stinks due to low oil/energy prices. While America proceeds to blow every advantage we have. To just blithely throw them away.
I can’t blame just Obama. The entire State Department is leftist and gay dominated and has had awful Hillary and Kerry leading it. Like Donald Trump likes to say say, we have stupid stupid stupid leaders.

I’m thinking the same thing. But why in the world would Israel partner with Russia in the first place?
